Degus are active rodents, and you'll notice this when they're eating: some animals push bowls around or knock them over. Therefore, it's best to choose a food bowl that's stable, hygienic, and easy to clean. Heavy materials like ceramic and concrete are ideal if your degus like to "build." Why a good food bowl for degus?
A good feeding bowl prevents unnecessary spills and keeps the food clean longer (less bedding or sand in the bowl). Stability is especially important for degus. Working with a group? Then it often helps to create multiple feeding stations . Complete your feeding zone with a fixed roughage area using Degu hay racks and additional challenges through play and foraging .
What do you pay attention to?
Choose based on (1) weight (anti-tip), (2) material (hygiene & durability), and (3) shape (suits your enclosure). For true "tippers," ceramic or concrete is usually the most practical. Want to feed higher? Then a hanging feeder is ideal.
