Pros of the Trixie Ceramic Feeder Carrot

Made of glazed ceramic
Sturdy, smooth and easy to clean
Can be used as a food bowl, snack bowl, or water bowl
Nice size for animals from the size of a rat
Available in multiple colors

Why choose a ceramic food bowl?

A ceramic food bowl is practical for daily use. The material is heavier than many plastic bowls, meaning the bowl is less likely to slide around. The smooth glazed surface is also easy to clean. This is convenient for food, vegetables, purees, herbs, or other wet and dry foods.

A designated feeding spot provides clarity in the enclosure. Your animal knows where to find the food or water, and you can more easily see how much has been eaten or drunk. This makes a food bowl not only convenient but also provides a clear overview of daily care.

Thanks to the carrot print and the various color choices, this tray is also a nice way to add a bit more color to the enclosure or run without making it look busy.

Use as a food bowl

  • Place the container in a fixed, stable spot in the enclosure.
  • Use it for the daily portion of food, herbs, vegetables, or snacks.
  • Check daily whether any food residue remains.
  • Clean the bowl regularly, especially with wet food or fresh vegetables.
  • Do not place the container in a spot where a lot of bedding or hay ends up in it.

For rats, this size is convenient as a multi-animal food bowl or as a container for vegetables, purees, and treats. For guinea pigs and rabbits, the bowl can be used for pellets, herbs, vegetables, or snacks. For chinchillas and degus, it is particularly suitable for their daily food or herbs, provided the bowl stands stably.

Use as a water bowl

You can also use this ceramic bowl as a water bowl. Ceramic is water-resistant and easy to rinse. When using it as a water bowl, however, please note that open water can get dirty faster than water in a drinking bottle.

  • Fill the container with clean water daily.
  • Change the water more often when bedding, hay, or food gets into it.
  • Place the container on a stable spot where your animal can easily reach it.
  • Preferably do not place it directly next to loose substrate that can easily fall into the water.
  • Clean the bowl daily when you use it as a water bowl.

For some animals, a water bowl works better than a water bottle, while others drink better from a bottle. Take a good look at what suits your animal and enclosure.

For which animals is this feeder suitable?

  • Rat and pygmy rat: suitable as a food bowl, vegetable bowl, porridge bowl, or extra bowl for multiple animals.
  • Guinea pig: suitable as a food bowl, vegetable bowl, or water bowl, depending on the setup.
  • Rabbit: suitable as a food bowl or snack bowl. For water or larger portions, a larger or heavier bowl may sometimes be more practical for larger rabbits.
  • Chinchilla: suitable for food or herbs, provided the container is stable and used appropriately.
  • Degu: suitable for food or herbs, especially if you are looking for a sturdy ceramic bowl that is less likely to slide around.

For smaller rodents such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, this bowl is usually a bit large. For these animals, you often prefer to choose a smaller food bowl or a small dish that better suits their portion size and enclosure.

Cleaning and maintenance

  • Clean the tray regularly with warm water.
  • Remove food remnants daily, especially with wet food or vegetables.
  • Do you use it as a water bowl? Change the water daily and clean the bowl thoroughly.
  • Check regularly for damage, cracks, or sharp edges.
  • Replace the tray if it is damaged.
