A Hamster must have a spacious enclosure where he can dig in and show his natural behavior. A terrarium makes this possible. Especially for Hamsters we have different types and sizes of terrariums that you can choose from.

How big should a hamster or dwarf hamster enclosure be?

The hamster cage should preferably be spacious. It is better to get a cage that is too big than a cage that is too small. With all cages you will find a specification for which hamster species the cage is suitable. If we indicate "Hamster" then the cage is suitable for both a Dwarf Hamster and a Syrian Hamster (Golden Hamster). A size guideline is a minimum of 70 x 50 cm for Dwarf Hamsters and 100 x 50 cm for Syrian Hamsters (LICG), where bigger is always better for the animals.

Dwarf hamster: 70 x 50 cm = 3500 cm2
Golden hamster: 100 x 50 cm = 5000 cm2

The dimensions are therefore not fixed, but the ground surface is. The animals must therefore have a minimum ground surface of 3500 cm2 (Dwarf Hamster) and 5000 cm2 (Golden Hamster). The dimensions of the accommodation can therefore differ, provided the ground surface does not fall below the recommended dimensions.

How high should the ground cover be?

We recommend a soil layer of at least 20 cm, so that the animals can dig well.
