Product description

White Mill Chinchilla Bath Sand

Witte Molen Chinchilla Bath Sand is a natural bath sand for animals that groom their fur by rolling and bathing in sand. The sand helps absorb excess oil and dirt from the fur, making it ideal for the care of chinchillas, degus, gerbils, hamsters, and dwarf hamsters.

When it comes to sand, DRD always considers the right animal group and application. For chinchillas and degus, a sand bath is an essential part of coat care. For hamsters and gerbils, bath sand is particularly important as a sand bath, a sniffing area, and part of a natural setup. This way, you don't just use this product as “sand,” but as a grooming and enrichment area that suits your animal's behavior.

Why choose good bath sand?

A good sand bath helps animals care for their fur naturally. The sand absorbs excess oil and moisture, keeping the coat cleaner and fluffier. This is especially important for chinchillas and degus, as these animals do not groom their fur with water.

For chinchillas, a sand bath is a regular part of their grooming. Their fur is dense and fine in texture and needs to stay dry. A good sand bath helps keep the fur airy and well-groomed. Degus also enjoy using a sand bath to care for their fur.

For hamsters, dwarf hamsters, and gerbils, bath sand also serves a clear enrichment function. They can roll in it, dig, sniff around, and use it as a permanent sandy spot in the enclosure. In a natural setup, a sand area also provides variation in texture and behavior.

For which animals is this bath sand suitable?

  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a sand bath and sand zone in the enclosure. Many dwarf hamsters use sand to roll in, dig, and groom themselves.
  • Hamster: suitable as a sand bath and part of hamsterscaping. Choose a sand bath that is large enough for your hamster so that it can easily turn and roll.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a sand bath and gerbilscaping zone. Gerbils enjoy using sand to roll, dig, and stay active.
  • Chinchilla: highly suitable as bath sand for coat care. A sand bath is part of the normal grooming routine for chinchillas.
  • Degu: suitable as a sand bath for coat care and natural bathing behavior. Ensure a sturdy sandbox and change the sand regularly.

For rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits, a sand bath is not a suitable standard grooming product. Rats have sensitive airways and do not bathe in sand like chinchillas and degus. Guinea pigs and rabbits also do not need a sand bath for their coat care. For these animals, it is better to choose grooming and a setup that suits their individual behavior.

How do you use Witte Molen Chinchilla Bath Sand?

Place the bath sand in a spacious sandbox or a clearly defined sand zone. The sand area must be large enough so that your animal can turn, roll, and move around comfortably. Place the sandbox on a stable spot so that it does not easily tip over or get filled with bedding.

For chinchillas and degus, you can offer the sand bath at fixed times or place it in the enclosure, depending on the setup and how clean the sand stays. For hamsters and gerbils, a sand bath can often be part of the permanent setup, especially for hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping.

  • Use clean, dry bath sand.
  • Place the sand in a suitable sandbox or sand zone.
  • Sift the sand regularly to remove droppings and bottom litter.
  • Replace the sand when it becomes dirty, damp, or clumpy.
  • Observe your animal during first use.
  • Use the sand only for animals for which sand baths are suitable.

Which packaging do you choose?

Witte Molen Chinchilla Bath Sand is available in various packaging sizes. Which size is convenient depends on the animal species, the size of the sandbox, and how often you completely replace the sand.

Packaging Handy for Usage
800 grams Try small sandboxes Handy for dwarf hamsters, hamsters, or a small sand area
3 kg Regular use Practical for larger sandboxes or multiple water changes

For hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping

In a naturally designed enclosure, a sand zone is often one of the standard features. In hamsterscaping, for example, you use sand next to a digging area, a house, or a running route. In gerbilscaping, sand can be nicely combined with tunnels, cork, wood, and bedding.

A clearly defined sandy area gives your animal choices. Your animal can dig in bedding, rest in a little house, search for food, and bathe in the sand. It is precisely these different zones that make an enclosure richer and more interesting.

Combine Witte Molen Chinchilla Bath Sand with, for example, hamsterscaping , gerbilscaping , gerbil sandboxes , or chinchilla sandboxes .
