The Getzoo Marley 25 cm Sand Bath is a spacious, sheltered sand bath for small rodents who love to roll, dig, sniff, and groom their fur. Thanks to the two separate chambers, you can use Marley in multiple ways: as a sand bath, a digging box, or as a combination of various natural fillings.
At DRD, when it comes to sandboxes, we focus primarily on size, entry, shelter, filling, and the animal for which the sandbox makes the real sense. Marley measures approximately 25 × 25 × 15 cm, has a roof of approximately 19 × 19 cm, and an entrance approximately 7 cm high. This makes the sandbox particularly suitable for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils. For dwarf rats and rats, Marley is especially fun as a digging or sniffing box with a suitable, low-dust filling.
✔ Two separate chambers for sand, cork, coconut, or another suitable filling
✔ Sheltered roof for a calm, safe appearance in the enclosure
✔ Spacious enough to roll, dig, and sniff
✔ Beautiful as a permanent sand zone in hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping
✔ Also great as a digging or foraging box for rats
✔ Rounded design without sharp corners
A sand bath provides small rodents with a designated area to roll, dig, and groom their fur. Dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, in particular, often enjoy using a permanent sand zone. Marley offers even more possibilities for this, as the bath consists of two separate chambers.
You can fill both chambers with suitable bath sand, but you can also vary it. For example, consider one chamber with bath sand and one with cork granules, coconut fiber, paper litter, or another suitable digging filling. This way, Marley becomes not only a sand bath but also a small discovery area where your pet can choose, sniff, and dig.
The roof provides extra shelter. This is pleasant for animals that like to use their sand spot quietly and semi-hidden. At the same time, the design ensures that Marley fits beautifully into a natural setting with wood, cork, moss, ground cover, tunnels, and hiding places.
The strong point of Marley is the dual compartment layout. For each compartment, you can determine which filling best suits your animal and decor. For hamsters and gerbils, for example, you can choose bath sand in both compartments, or one compartment with bath sand and one compartment with a different digging filling.
Do not fill the cage unnecessarily to the rim. A practical layer gives your animal room to move and helps limit spillage. For hamsters and gerbils, a layer of about 4 to 7 cm is often comfortable, depending on the bedding and your animal's behavior.
Marley is not suitable as a sand bath for guinea pigs and rabbits. Guinea pigs and rabbits do not need a sand bath like hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, and degus. For these animals, it is preferable to choose suitable tunnels, hiding places, hay racks, litter boxes, or digging opportunities that better suit their size and care needs.
In a hamsterscaping enclosure, Marley can become a nice permanent sand zone. Place the container in a stable spot, for example next to a cork tunnel, multi-chamber house, exercise wheel, or foraging area. This way, the sand bath becomes part of a logical route through the enclosure.
For dwarf hamsters, Marley is spacious and sheltered. You can use one room as a sand bath and the other as a small digging or sniffing area. For Syrian hamsters/golden hamsters, it is important to check if your hamster fits comfortably through the passage and has enough room to turn around.
Combine Marley with suitable bedding, natural tunnels, moss, and small foraging spots. This gives the enclosure more structure and provides your hamster with multiple places to explore.
For gerbils, Marley is a great combination of sand bath and digging box. Gerbils enjoy using sand for grooming and find digging and burrowing interesting. The two chambers allow you to offer extra variety, for example, sand in one chamber and coconut or cork in the other.
Place Marley securely in the enclosure. Gerbils can actively dig and move bedding, causing the setup to shift over time. Therefore, check regularly that the box is stable and that the bedding remains clean and dry.
For dwarf rats and rats, Marley is primarily fun as a digging box, sniffing box, or foraging area. Rats do not need a sand bath for grooming and do not bathe in sand like hamsters or gerbils. Therefore, it is preferable to choose a different filling for rats, such as coconut fiber, paper, cork, or another low-dust digging material.
In a ratscaping setup, you can use Marley as a compact digging spot. Hide small snacks, herbs, or food among the bedding so your rats can search and burrow. Place the box securely and check the bedding regularly for moisture and soiling.
Which filling is best depends on the animal and the purpose. For hamsters, dwarf hamsters, mice, and gerbils, use fine, suitable bath sand when using Marley as a sand bath. For rats, however, you should not use bath sand, but rather a digging filling that is low-dust, safe, and practical.
Use Marley as a sand bath with suitable bath sand for hamsters, mice, and gerbils. If you want to use Marley as a digging box, for example for rats or as an extra digging zone, choose a suitable filling such as coconut fiber, cork, or paper material.

Place Marley on a flat, stable spot. In an enclosure with deep bedding, you can partially build the tray in so that it blends in naturally with the rest of the decor. However, ensure that the passageway remains accessible and that your pet can easily get in and out of the rooms.
Regularly scoop soiled spots out of the filling. Replace the sand or grave filling as soon as it looks dirty, damp, or dusty. How often this is necessary depends on the animal species, the number of animals, and how intensively Marley is used.
Clean the litter thoroughly with a dry or slightly damp cloth and let it dry completely before adding new filling. Do not use too much water and never return the litter to the enclosure while it is still damp.
Check Marley regularly for wear, loose parts, and gnaw marks. Gerbils, rats, chinchillas, and degus, in particular, may use the furnishings more intensively. As long as the tray remains sturdy and clean, it can simply remain part of the enclosure.

Do not use shell sand or sharp bird sand as bath sand. Choose soft, fine bath sand suitable for small rodents. For rats, it is preferable to choose coconut fiber, cork, paper material, or another low-dust digging material.
