A toilet for Rats is highly recommended, because Rats are house-trained animals. At least with good upbringing, they can learn to be toilet trained and to do their business properly in a toilet. A good toilet is very important.
Are Rats Housetrained?
Take advantage of the fact that rats are house-trained animals. Start potty training the rats as soon as possible. First you need to find out where the Rats relieve themselves. You then have to place or hang a toilet in that spot, but be careful! Rats are lazy and will prefer the nearest spot. Do you have multiple floors? Then install multiple toilets to increase the chance of success!
How do you potty train rats?
To help the Rats, it is best to first put the droppings that are still placed next to the toilet in the toilet yourself. This way you send a signal that it should only be done in that location. The animals will go by the smell and do their business in that place.
As an additional aid there is the pee stone! Rat experts agree that rats, for whatever reason, love to pee on and around a rock. This can therefore be a perfect tool for toilet training the animals.
Which filling is suitable for the Rat Toilet?
An ideal filling for the toilet are special toilet fillers, which are specially made for a toilet and retain puddles and unpleasant odors better. Ground cover plants can also be used for this, for example take a firm granule such as Back 2 Nature .
NB! Always use a different filling in the toilet than in the rest of the cage, there must be a difference so that the animals understand that it is something different in which they have to relieve themselves.
