Product description

Rodet corner toilet 32 cm for rats

The Rodet 32 cm Corner Toilet is a plastic corner toilet for rats in a wire cage. Many rats naturally choose a fixed spot in their enclosure to urinate or defecate. By placing a toilet at precisely that spot, you make the cleaning routine more manageable, and the rest of the cage often stays tidy for longer.

This corner toilet features a convenient mounting system that allows you to attach the toilet to the bars. As a result, it stays in place better than a loose tray. This is especially pleasant for rats, as they like to inspect and rearrange their furnishings and can sometimes make quite a mess with loose parts.

Why choose a corner toilet for rats?

Rats are smart animals and often use certain spots in the cage as a toilet more frequently than others. Once you recognize that favorite corner, you can place the Rodet Corner Toilet there. The goal is not to keep the entire cage perfectly clean, but to make a large part of the urination and defecation area easier to manage.

The corner shape makes the toilet space-saving. You use a corner of the wire cage, leaving more room for hammocks, platforms, tunnels, feeding areas, and enrichment. The mounting system ensures the toilet stays more securely in place, making it less likely for rats to move or knock it over.

The plastic material is practical for daily use. You can easily empty, rinse, and refill the toilet with a suitable litter. This makes this corner toilet especially handy for owners who like to keep their rat cage tidy.

Only suitable for rats

The Rodet 32 cm Corner Toilet is intended for rats in a wire cage. For small rodents such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, this toilet is too large and not practical to use. For guinea pigs and rabbits, however, this model is too small; they require a more spacious toilet that better suits their body size and usage habits.

For rats, this size actually offers a practical middle ground: large enough to use as a toilet corner, but compact enough to place in a corner of a rat cage.

This is how you place the corner toilet in the rat cage.

First, check which corner your rats already use frequently. That is usually the best place to put the toilet. Place the Rodet Corner Toilet in that corner and attach it to the bars with the mounting system. This way, the toilet stays in place better and becomes a clear part of the cage setup.

In the beginning, you can place a few old droppings or a small amount of used toilet paper in the new litter box. The scent helps your rats recognize that this is the toilet corner. Some rats understand this quickly, while others need a little more time. That is perfectly normal.

Which filling do you use?

Use an absorbent toilet filler in the Rodet Corner Toilet that absorbs moisture well and is easy to scoop out. Fill the bottom with a layer and remove wet spots regularly. How often you need to change depends on the number of rats, the size of the cage, and how well your rats use the toilet.

It is better to use a different filling in the toilet than in the rest of the cage. This makes the difference between regular bedding and the toilet corner clearer for your rats. This can help make the toilet more recognizable.

Material, size and finish

Material: plastic.

Dimensions: approx. 32 × 22 × 14.5 cm.

Mounting: suspension system for attachment to bars.

Suitable for: rats in a wire cage.

Not suitable for: small rodents such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, because this toilet is too large for them. Also not suitable for guinea pigs and rabbits, because this model is too small for them.

Maintenance

Regularly remove wet spots and droppings from the toilet. With heavy use, you can maintain the toilet fill daily. Periodically empty the toilet completely and clean it using an enclosure-friendly cleaning routine. Allow the toilet to dry thoroughly before refilling it.

Also check the mounting system. Rats are active and inquisitive, so it is useful to check occasionally whether the litter box is still securely attached and not hanging crooked.

Good to know

Not every rat uses a litter box immediately or fully. A corner litter box primarily helps to better accommodate the favorite toilet corner. It remains normal for droppings to be found elsewhere in the cage or for bedding to end up in the litter box. The goal is a practical, more pleasant cleaning routine.

Are your rats moving the litter box or using a different corner? Then move the litter box to the spot they choose themselves. Rats often clearly indicate which corner feels logical to them.

Voor het mooie net iets te klein voor cavias, maar het schuifsysteem vind ik ideaal! Hierdoor heel makkelijk schoon te maken en het staat stevig zodat de cavias er niet mee aan de sleep gaan.
