A toilet for your guinea pigs can be useful and save time and bedding. Not all guinea pigs are toilet trained, one guinea pig chooses a corner and the other does its business throughout the entire enclosure. However, there is a trick that can help potty train guinea pigs.
Why do guinea pigs poop all day long?
Guinea pigs are herbivores (plant eaters). The Guinea pig's digestion is kept going by the food that passes through it, so these animals must have access to hay throughout the day. Due to this special digestive system, guinea pigs poop a lot where they eat. If they stop to nibble at the hay rack, it may be an idea to place the toilet just under the hay rack so that the animals (unconsciously) do their business in the toilet. In this way, a large part of the feces can be collected and the rest of the ground cover remains clean for longer.
