Product description

DRD Rodent Shop ® Dried Fish for small rodents

DRD Knaagdierwinkel ® Dried Fish are a protein-rich animal snack for small rodents that can naturally eat animal protein. Think of mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, gerbils, and rats. The fish are dried, making them easy to store, easy to portion, and fun to use as a reward or foraging extra.

This snack is primarily intended for protein-eating rodents. Therefore, you do not feed the fish as a main food, but as a small supplement alongside an appropriate basic diet. Due to their distinct scent and texture, they are very suitable for hiding in a snack bowl, foraging toy, or among the bedding.

Nutrition in brief

  • Dried fish as a source of animal protein
  • Suitable for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, gerbils, and rats
  • Handy as a snack, reward, or foraging extra
  • With natural animal fatty acids from fish
  • Not suitable for herbivores such as guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus.

Pros of Dried Fish

Protein-rich animal snack: suitable for small rodents that can receive animal protein as a supplement.
100% dried fish: a pure snack without complicated additives.
Strong scent and taste: therefore often extra interesting as a reward or search snack.
Fun for foraging: hide a small fish in the enclosure and let your animal search for it.
Easy to store: dried fish are practical to use and do not need to be refrigerated.

Why give dried fish?

Some small rodents naturally have a varied diet. In addition to seeds, grains, plant material, and herbs, they can also obtain animal protein from insects or other small animal food sources. Dried fish fall within this animal snack category and can therefore be an interesting supplement for mice, hamsters, gerbils, and rats.

Small fish are often very attractive due to their scent. This makes them handy when you want to reward an animal or make foraging more interesting. For example, you can hide one small fish among dry herbs, in a snack bowl, or in a safe foraging spot in the enclosure.

Because dried fish are concentrated and nutritious, always give them in moderation. A small amount is often enough for small animals.

For which animals are Dried Fish suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as an animal protein snack and foraging reward. Give small portions.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a small snack. Give in moderation and use it, for example, as a reward or a search extra.
  • Hamster: suitable as a supplementary animal snack alongside good hamster food.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a variation alongside the basic food. Use the fish primarily as a small reward or extra foraging food.
  • Fat-tailed gerbil: suitable as an animal snack within a varied range of insects and other animal proteins.
  • Dwarf rat and rat: suitable as a reward or protein-rich snack. Rats often appreciate strong-smelling snacks, but give them in moderation.
  • Guinea pig, rabbit, chinchilla, and degu: not suitable. These animals are herbivores and should not be given animal snacks such as small fish.

How do you feed Dried Fish?

Give Dried Fish as a supplementary snack alongside the normal main food. Start with a small amount, especially if your animal is not yet familiar with this snack. You can give a fish by hand, mix it into a snack mix, or hide it in a foraging area.

For extra enrichment, you can use a small fish in aforaging toy , snack plate, or among dry herbs. This requires your pet to search and sniff, making snack time longer and more interesting.

Compound

Composition: dried fish.

Dried fish naturally contain animal proteins and fats. As a result, they are suitable as a supplementary snack for animals that are allowed to eat animal proteins, but not as a daily staple food.

How do you store Dried Fish?

Store the Dried Fish in a cool, dry, and dark place in a well-sealed container. An airtight jar is useful to keep the fish dry and to better retain the scent within the packaging. Refrigeration is not necessary, as long as the packaging remains tightly closed and does not become damp.
