This mix is particularly interesting for animals such as mice, hamsters, gerbils, and rats. Rats are often fond of nuts and fruit, while hamsters and mice like to collect small pieces or take them to their stash. Why choose a nut and fruit mix?
Nuts and fruit are very attractive ingredients for many rodents. Nuts have a firm bite and contain natural fats, while fruit primarily adds scent and a sweeter taste. It is precisely this combination that makes this mix very suitable as a special reward or as a small enrichment in the enclosure.
Because this mix is richer than a regular herbal snack, feed it consciously and in small quantities. For small animals, a few pieces are often enough. This way, it remains a treat and the daily diet stays well balanced.
Use the mix, for example, in a foraging toy, snack board, or sniffing corner. By hiding small pieces, you encourage searching, sniffing, and engaging with food. This immediately makes snack time more valuable than simply placing something in a food bowl.
For which animals is Nuts and Fruit Mix suitable?
- Mouse: suitable as a small snack or foraging reward. Give small pieces and dose consciously.
- Dwarf hamster: give in very limited quantities. We do not recommend this mix for sugar-sensitive animals or animals predisposed to diabetes.
- Hamster: suitable as an occasional treat. Give small pieces and use it primarily as a reward or search extra.
- Gerbil: suitable as an occasional snack and fun to hide in a foraging area.
- Dwarf rat and rat: very suitable as a reward or treat. Rats often find nuts and fruit very interesting.
- Guinea pig and rabbit: preferably not as a standard snack. Due to the nuts and fruit, this mix is richer than what is usually suitable for these animals. For guinea pigs and rabbits, it is better to choose fiber-rich herbal or vegetable snacks.
- Chinchilla and degu: not suitable. For these animals, it is better to choose fiber-rich snacks without fruit, sugar, and nuts.
How do you feed Nuts and Fruit Mix?
Give this mix as a supplementary snack alongside the normal main food. Start with a small amount, especially if your animal is not yet used to nuts or fruit. For small rodents, you can break larger pieces into smaller pieces if necessary.
You can feed the mix by hand, mix it with herbs , or use it in aforaging toy . This mix also works well in a snack bowl: your animal has to search for the small pieces itself and is actively engaged in eating.
