For chinchillas, a sand bath is primarily about routine, grooming, and relaxation. You often see their typical rolling behavior immediately after the sand is ready. For beginners, the key is to keep it simple: a suitable container, a layer of good bath sand, and a fixed bath time. For experienced enthusiasts, it's more about optimization: less spillage, smarter sifting, and a durable container.
Which sandbox or sand bath is right for your chinchilla?
Pay particular attention to space (rolling should be easy), entry (stable and safe), and material . Wood or plastic are fine, but not every chinchilla is equally "chew-proof." For a longer-lasting tank, choose a sturdy model or a bathhouse with a robust finish. A (partially) enclosed bathhouse also helps keep the sand inside the tank.
