For beginners, the key is to keep it simple: a suitable container, a layer of good bath sand, and a fixed bath time. For experienced enthusiasts, it's more about optimization: less spillage, smarter sifting, and a durable container.
Which sandbox or sand bath is right for your chinchilla?
Pay particular attention to space (rolling should be easy), entry (stable and safe), and material . Wood or plastic are fine, but not every chinchilla is equally "chew-proof." For a longer-lasting tank, choose a sturdy model or a bathhouse with a robust finish. A (partially) enclosed bathhouse also helps keep the sand inside the tank.
Choosing bath sand: what is important?
Preferably use special chinchilla bath sand , not play sand. Good bath sand is designed for rolling, feels pleasant, and is easy to maintain. Combine your sand bath with a scoop or sieve to extend the life of the sand and keep the enclosure cleaner.
