Beaphar Care+ Bath Sand is a coarser bath sand for animals that enjoy rolling, bathing, and grooming their fur in a natural way. The sand absorbs excess oils and moisture from the coat, helping to keep it clean, fluffy, and well-groomed. Chinchillas, degus, and gerbils, in particular, benefit greatly from a suitable sand spot, but hamsters and dwarf hamsters also enjoy using a sand bath as part of their daily care and enrichment.
The coarse structure is deliberately practical: the sand comes out from between the hairs more easily and creates less dust than very fine sand. As a result, Beaphar Care+ Bath Sand is a great choice when you are looking for a clean, organized, and easy-to-use sand bath for animals that exhibit true sand-bathing behavior.

For some animals, a sand bath is truly part of their natural grooming. Chinchillas roll extensively in sand to keep their dense fur clean and airy. Degus and gerbils also enjoy using sand for grooming and natural behavior. For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, a sand bath is often a pleasant combination of grooming, enrichment, and a designated toilet area.
When it comes to bath sand, DRD focuses primarily on practical use: does it not create unnecessary dust, does it stay nicely in the sandbox, does it come out of the coat easily, and is it suitable for the animal you are using it for? Beaphar Care+ Bath Sand has a coarser structure, making it a practical choice for owners who want to offer a clear, clean, and usable sand bath.
Sepiolite is a natural mineral often used in bath sand for small animals. It has absorbent properties, allowing it to soak up grease and moisture from the coat. This makes it suitable for animals that groom their coat using a sand bath.
For a sand bath, it is important to use special bath sand and not ordinary play sand, shell sand, or sharp terrarium sand. Ordinary sand can be too sharp, too dirty, too dusty, or too coarse for coat care. Bath sand is specifically intended for rolling in and moving through the fur.
Fill a sandbox, bowl, or bathhouse with at least 3 cm of bath sand. Choose a container that is larger than the animal so that your animal can turn, roll, and move around properly. Place the sandbox in an easily accessible spot in the enclosure.
| Animal | Usage |
| Chinchilla | Offer a sand bath daily; at least 30 minutes each time. |
| Degoe | Offer at least twice a week; more often is possible if the sand remains clean. |
| Gerbil | Offer at least twice a week; many gerbils also like to use a sand bath as a regular grooming spot. |
| Dwarf hamster and hamster | As a supplement to coat care and often also as a designated toilet area in the enclosure. |
Remove contamination from the sand immediately. If necessary, use a small sieve scoop to remove droppings, bedding, and food remnants. Replace the bath sand completely weekly, or more often if the sand smells wet, dirty, or musty.
For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, a sand bath often naturally becomes a toilet area as well. This is convenient, as you can then easily sift the sand or replace it locally. For chinchillas, degus, and gerbils, the sand bath is primarily intended as a bathing and grooming area, but contamination can occur there too.
Do you use the sand as a toilet area? Then check it daily and replace wet or soiled parts sooner. A clean sand bath remains more pleasant for your pet and prevents sandboxes from developing unnecessary odors.
Composition: sepiolite, minerals.
Analysis: crude protein 17%, crude fiber 8.8%, crude fat 3.2%, crude ash 4.9%, calcium 0.76%, sodium 0.54%, phosphorus 0.41%, magnesium 0.15%, potassium 0.95%.
The composition is designed for absorbent use in a sand bath. The sand absorbs excess fat and moisture, thus aiding in the natural coat care of animals that exhibit genuine sand bathing behavior.
Always use bath sand in a suitable sandbox and check how your animal interacts with it the first time you use it. Some animals roll around enthusiastically right away, while others need to get to know the sandbox first. Place the box down stably so that it cannot tip over or be easily undermined.
Do not use a sand bath for rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits. They do not need this for daily grooming. For rats, we prefer low-dust bedding, digging boxes with suitable material, tunnels, foraging toys, and natural decor such as Ratscaping .
You use this bath sand for animals that love to roll in the sand to groom their fur. The sand absorbs excess oils and moisture and fits well in a sandbox or bathhouse.
Yes, this bath sand is suitable for chinchillas. Chinchillas need a sand bath for their dense fur and usually use it very actively.
Use at least 3 cm of bath sand in a bowl, sandbox, or bathhouse that is larger than the animal. This allows your animal to roll and move around properly.
Remove contamination immediately and replace the bath sand at least weekly. If the sand is used as a toilet or is visibly soiled, replace it sooner.
No, it is better to use special bath sand or chinchilla sand. Regular sand can be too sharp, too dusty, or dirty and is not intended for coat care.
No, we do not recommend bath sand for rats. Rats do not need a sand bath, and fine sand can be taxing on their sensitive airways.
No, guinea pigs and rabbits do not need a sand bath for grooming. For these animals, it is better to choose suitable bedding, hay, care, and enrichment.

My chinchilla loves it
