Product description

Trixie Multi-chamber House Leif 35 cm for Mice, Dwarf Hamsters and Gerbils

The Trixie Multi-Chamber House Leif 35 cm is a spacious wooden house with four rooms, a removable roof, and multiple openings. The house is designed for small rodents who like to hide, store food, and use different spaces. This makes Leif particularly suitable for mice, dwarf hamsters, and gerbils.

Thanks to its multi-chamber layout, this house aligns beautifully with the natural behavior of small rodents. In the wild, they often use tunnels, nest chambers, and storage areas. In the enclosure, a multi-chamber house offers more choice: sleeping in one room, storing food in another, and moving in and out through various openings.

  • Dimensions: approximately 35 x 25 x 11 cm

  • With a slope and multiple openings
  • Openings: approx. ⌀ 5.5 cm and 6 x 7.5 cm
  • No open floor: the bedrooms have a floor
  • Suitable for mice, dwarf hamsters, and gerbils

Advantages of the Trixie Multi-Room House Leif

Four rooms: ideal for giving more space to sleeping, sheltering, and storage behavior.
Removable roof: convenient for a leisurely inspection without lifting the entire house.
Multiple openings: pleasant for animals that like to use different routes.
With darkened sleeping areas: great for animals that like to rest in a sheltered and dark place.
Great for scaping: the flat roof can be used as a low platform in a natural setting.

Why choose a multi-room house?

A multi-chamber house gives small rodents more choice than a standard single-room house. Animals can decide for themselves where to sleep, where to collect nesting material, and where to store food. This suits hamsters, dwarf hamsters, mice, and gerbils well, as they naturally like to work with chambers, routes, and storage areas.

This is especially nice for dwarf hamsters, as they often like to create their own nesting chamber and food storage area. The removable roof helps you quietly check for old food remnants or wet spots without immediately disturbing the entire nest.

For social animals such as mice and gerbils, a multi-chamber house can provide extra peace and quiet. Animals can lie together, but also retreat to another room when they need space. However, for groups, always ensure there are multiple hiding places in the enclosure so that one house does not become the only safe spot.

For which animals is the Leif Meerkamerhuis suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a spacious group house with multiple chambers, routes, and hiding places. Mice like to use complex structures.
  • Dwarf hamster: very suitable as a sleeping, storage, and hiding place. The openings are spacious enough for dwarf hamsters with filled cheek pouches.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a multi-chamber house and platform, provided it is placed securely. Gerbils can actively work wood and create additional passages.
  • Syrian hamster: can sometimes be suitable in practice, but check carefully whether your hamster passes through the openings comfortably and moves around the house pleasantly. For large Syrian hamsters, a more spacious house might make more sense.

Why are wide openings important?

The openings of the Leif house are approximately ⌀ 5.5 cm and 6 x 7.5 cm. This is important for animals with cheek pouches, such as dwarf hamsters and hamsters. If an opening is too narrow, an animal has to squeeze through it. This is unpleasant, especially when the cheek pouches are filled with food or nesting material.

Always check for every animal whether it fits easily through the openings. A house should feel sheltered, but the passageways must remain wide enough for relaxed use.

Use for hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping

The Trixie Leif Multi-Room House fits very well into hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping. Thanks to the flat top, you can use the house as a low platform. On this, you can place, for example, a food bowl, water bowl, sand bath, or a small decorative element.

In a natural setup, you can partially conceal the house with ground cover, moss, cork, or a low passageway. However, ensure that ventilation and openings remain unobstructed. The house has no open floor, meaning it has a solid floor in the sleeping areas. This makes inspecting and cleaning straightforward.

Stability is especially important for gerbils. They dig a lot and can undermine the enclosure. Therefore, place the house securely, for example on the bottom of the enclosure, before building up the bedding around it.

Removable roof: handy for inspection

The removable roof is one of the biggest advantages of this house. You can check at your leisure without moving the entire house. This is especially handy when you want to see if there are old food supplies, wet spots, or soiled nesting material.

Do not check the nest unnecessarily often and work calmly. Small rodents consider their nest important. A short, targeted check is often sufficient to keep a close eye on hygiene without constantly disturbing the setup.

Flat top as a plateau

The top of the house can be used as a low platform. This is handy when you want to make smart use of space in an enclosure. A water bowl, food bowl, or sand bath can be placed on the roof, as long as everything remains stable and cannot tip over.

Only place heavy accessories on the roof when the house is stable. Also check that your animal can safely get on and off. For small animals, a low route via bedding, cork, or a small bridge is often preferable.

Cleaning and maintenance

It is best to clean the wood as dry as possible. Lift off the roof, remove old food remnants and soiled nesting material, and wipe dirty spots with a slightly damp cloth if necessary. Then let the house dry completely before putting it back in place.

If your pet urinates in the house, urine can soak into the wood. In that case, you can use a suitable urine spray . Always let the wood dry thoroughly before using the house again.

Material and wood information

The house is made of wood. According to the specifications, these products are made from softwood species without resin canals. The wood species used do not produce resin and are dried for a long period. The glue consists of a cellulose mixture.

Regularly inspect wooden products for wear, gnaw marks, loose parts, and rough edges. Gerbils, in particular, can actively work on wood. This is part of their behavior, but the enclosure must remain sturdy and safe.

Good to know

Offer the Trixie Leif Multi-Chamber House under supervision and check regularly for wear and tear. Look for gnawing damage, loose parts, rough edges, and stability. Place the house securely, especially with gerbils and other animals that like to dig. Check old food supplies regularly, especially when offering fresh food. Choose this house primarily for mice, dwarf hamsters, and gerbils; for larger hamsters, always check that the openings and chambers are comfortable enough.
