Product description

Trixie Plastic Igloo House 29 cm for Rats, Guinea Pigs and Dwarf Rabbits

The Trixie Plastic Igloo House 29 cm is a spacious shelter for rats, guinea pigs, and small rabbits. The round igloo shape creates a sheltered spot where your animal can retreat, rest, or lie down with other animals of its kind. The open bottom allows you to easily place the house on top of the bedding.

The house is made of plastic. This makes it particularly practical for animals for whom cleaning is especially important, such as rats and guinea pigs. Plastic absorbs moisture less quickly than wood and is therefore easier to wipe down when urine, bedding, or food residue gets on it. There is a small step on the side, allowing animals to climb on top of the house as well, making the igloo house part of the interior.

In short

  • Spacious plastic igloo house for rats, guinea pigs, and small rabbits
  • Dimensions: approximately 29 × 33 x 19 cm
  • Opening: approximately 13 x 12 cm

  • Easy to clean due to the plastic material

Pros of the Trixie Plastic Igloo House 29 cm

Easy to clean: plastic is practical for animals that mark a lot or make a mess quickly.
Spacious model: suitable as a hiding and resting place for rats, guinea pigs, and dwarf rabbits.
Open bottom: the house stands directly on the bedding and is easy to lift for inspection or cleaning.
With step: animals can also use the house as a raised platform or lookout spot.
Available in various colors: fun for furnishing the enclosure in a practical and cheerful way.

Why choose a plastic igloo house?

A good shelter gives your animal its own place to retreat. Group animals, such as rats and guinea pigs, in particular, appreciate having sheltered spots in their enclosure. Sometimes they like to lie together, and sometimes they prefer to be apart. A spacious house helps provide that choice.

A major advantage of plastic is that it is easy to clean. This is useful for rats, as they may frequently mark areas in their enclosure. A guinea pig house can also get dirty more quickly due to bedding, hay, or urine spots. A plastic house is easier to lift, wipe down, and put back in place.

The igloo shape makes this house sheltered, while the open bottom is pleasant for ventilation and maintenance. You can place the house directly on a layer of bedding , so your pet can make a comfortable spot for itself.

For which animals is this igloo house suitable?

  • Rat: very suitable as a plastic shelter. Rats like to use these houses to sleep together, shelter, or sit quietly for a while.
  • Dwarf rat: suitable as a spacious house for multiple dwarf rats, depending on the group size and layout.
  • Guinea pig: suitable as a hiding place. Due to the spacious size, some guinea pigs can lie in it together, depending on their size and group dynamics.
  • Dwarf rabbit: suitable as an extra hiding place for small rabbits. For larger rabbits, the opening is usually too narrow.
  • Rabbit: especially suitable for small rabbits as an extra house next to a larger shelter. Not ideal as the sole main shelter for multiple rabbits.
  • Chinchilla and degu: only suitable if your animal does not gnaw on plastic. For strong gnawers, wooden, stone, or metal alternatives are often more practical.
  • Mouse, dwarf hamster, hamster, and gerbil: usually too large as a primary hiding place. Smaller houses or tunnels are often more logical for these animals.

Use with group animals

For social animals, it is important that there are sufficient hiding places. Rats and guinea pigs often want to rest together, but must also have the opportunity to avoid each other. This igloo house is spacious enough for multiple rats or guinea pigs, depending on the size of the animals, but it remains wise to place multiple hiding options in the enclosure.

For rabbits, this little house serves primarily as an extra hiding place or a playful house. For multiple rabbits, it is usually not large enough as a shared main hiding place. In that case, it is better to choose a larger rabbit house as a base and use the igloo as an extra spot in the enclosure or run.

How do you use the Trixie Igloo House?

  • Place the igloo house on a flat, stable spot in the enclosure.
  • Place the house on a clean layer of bedding or on a solid surface.
  • Check if the opening is wide enough for your animal.
  • For group animals, use multiple hiding places so that each animal has a choice.
  • Clean the little house regularly with a suitable cleaning agent and let it dry thoroughly.

For example, combine the house with rat products , guinea pig products , rabbit products , and other products from the houses category.

Dimensions

  • Dimensions: approximately 29 × 33 x 19 cm
  • Opening: approximately 13 x 12 cm
  • Material: plastic
  • Bottom: open bottom

If in doubt, always measure to see if the opening fits your animal. Rats and guinea pigs usually fit through well, but for larger rabbits, the opening may be too narrow.

What is the advantage of an open bottom?

An open bottom ensures that the house sits directly on the bedding. This allows your pet to pull some bedding, hay, or nesting material inside to make the resting spot more comfortable. It is convenient for you, as you can quickly lift the house to check if the spot is still clean and dry.

An open bottom also aids in ventilation. This is pleasant for shelters where animals lie or rest together for extended periods. However, check the area under the shelter regularly, as some animals urinate inside or next to their shelter.

Cleaning and maintenance

Plastic is easy to clean. Lift the house, remove bedding or dirt, and wipe it down with a damp cloth or a suitable cleaning agent for animal enclosures. Rinse or wipe away any residue thoroughly and allow the house to dry completely before putting it back.

Also check regularly for gnaw marks, cracks, or sharp edges. If the plastic becomes damaged or your animal starts actively gnawing on it, remove the house from the enclosure.

Compound

Composition: plastic.

Plastic is practical for houses that need to be cleaned frequently. However, it is not gnawing material. For animals that like to gnaw, it is better to offer additional, suitable gnawing material .

Good to know

Offer the Trixie Igloo House under supervision and check regularly for wear and tear. Pay particular attention to gnaw marks, cracks, or sharp edges. Do not place the house in direct sunlight or in a place where it gets too hot, as plastic can retain heat. Use a house appropriate to the size of your animal and always provide multiple hiding places for group animals.
