Product description

Trixie Indoor C&C Run 140 cm as a modular guinea pig cage

The Trixie Indoor C&C Run 140 cm is a spacious, modular indoor run that is very suitable as a guinea pig cage for owners seeking more floor space, a better overview, and flexibility than with a traditional guinea pig cage. The run measures approximately 140 × 70 × 35 cm and stands directly on the floor, providing guinea pigs with a low, open living space with plenty of room to move around.

When it comes to guinea pig enclosures, DRD chooses not just “a cage,” but an enclosure that aligns with guinea pig behavior. Guinea pigs are active social animals that primarily require floor space. This C&C run provides a strong foundation for 2 guinea pigs and can be expanded with separate panels when you want to create more space, need a different shape, or keep more guinea pigs later on.

In short

  • Modular indoor C&C run, ideal as an indoor guinea pig cage.
  • Dimensions: approx. 140 × 70 × 35 cm.
  • Floor area: approx. 0.98 m².
  • Suitable as a main enclosure for 2 guinea pigs.
  • For 3 or more guinea pigs, we recommend expanding with extra panels.
  • Expandable with separate lattice panels and solid panels.
  • Also handy as temporary screening in the house.
  • The floor cover is not included as standard and is available separately.

Why choose a C&C guinea pig cage?

A C&C guinea pig cage is popular because you are not stuck with one fixed shape. You can use the panels as a rectangular cage, but also expand, move, or adapt it to the space in your home. This makes this run very suitable for owners who want to start with a good foundation and easily expand later.

For guinea pigs, a continuous floor area is particularly important. Guinea pigs do not climb like rats or mice; they need space to walk, choose hiding places, go to the hay corner, and get out of each other's way. This 140 × 70 cm run provides a clear, uncluttered base at floor level for 2 guinea pigs.

Another advantage is that you can easily create zones. Think of a hay corner, shelter, feeding area, toilet zone, and open run. With solid panels, you can create a quieter corner or better contain splashes and bedding within the run. With extra wire panels, you can expand the run or create a convenient entrance.

Space advice for guinea pigs

Sufficient living space is important for guinea pigs. The LICG recommends the following minimum continuous floor areas: 0.9 m² for 2 guinea pigs, 1.2 m² for 3 guinea pigs, and 1.5 m² for 4 guinea pigs. This Indoor C&C Run has a floor area of approximately 0.98 m², making it suitable as a primary enclosure for 2 guinea pigs.

  • 2 guinea pigs: this run is suitable as a basic enclosure.
  • 3 guinea pigs: expanding with extra panels is recommended.
  • 4 or more guinea pigs: create a larger setup with extra panels so that the group has sufficient room to move around.

More space is almost always more pleasant for guinea pigs. A larger setup provides more peace and quiet, better movement routes, and more opportunities to create multiple hiding places and hay hooks.

For which animals is this Indoor C&C Run suitable?

  • Guinea pig: very suitable as a modular indoor cage. This run provides a good base for 2 guinea pigs. For 3 or more guinea pigs, we recommend expanding with extra panels.
  • Rabbit: only suitable as an indoor run or temporary enclosure under supervision. We do not recommend this run as an unsecured primary enclosure for rabbits, as rabbits can push, jump, and gnaw more strongly.

For small rodents such as mice, hamsters, and gerbils, this run is not suitable as a primary enclosure. The bar spacing and open construction do not suit their size and escape behavior. This low guinea pig setup is also not intended as a full-fledged cage for rats, chinchillas, and degus; they require different living conditions, height, or sturdier material.

Ground cover not included

The floor is not included as standard. For a neat and comfortable setup, we recommend combining the run with a suitable floor for the C&C run , such as fleece, floor mats, pee pads, or suitable bedding. This protects the floor and makes the enclosure more comfortable for your guinea pigs' paws.

For guinea pigs, a clear bedding structure often works best: a soft base, a separate hay corner, and optionally a toilet or potty area. This keeps the enclosure more organized and easier to keep clean.

Complete your Indoor C&C Race

With a suitable floor, the enclosure remains neat and comfortable. With extra panels, you can easily create a larger layout, an extra corner, or an extension.

Tip: combine lattice panels and solid panels to create a quiet hay corner while maintaining sufficient open walking space.

How do you practically set up this guinea pig cage?

A good guinea pig enclosure layout starts with clear zones. Guinea pigs love a clear view, hiding places, and easily accessible hay areas. Therefore, provide multiple hiding options, a spacious hay corner, and sufficient space to move around. Do not place everything in the middle of the enclosure, but rather work with edges and corners.

  • Hay corner: create one distinct spot with hay, optionally a hay rack or low hay box.
  • Hiding places: use multiple houses or tunnels, preferably with two openings.
  • Bottom: combine a bottom cover, fleece, pee pads, or suitable bedding.
  • Movement space: keep an open area clear so your guinea pigs can really move around.
  • Food and water: place food bowls and water stations on a stable surface and within easy reach.

Expand with individual panels

The biggest advantage of this run is that you can easily expand it. Do you want more space, a different shape, or to create a separate hay corner later on? Then you can use individual panels to adjust the setup. That makes this guinea pig cage future-proof.

  • Make the run longer or wider with extra wire panels.
  • Use solid panels as a quiet corner or messy edge.
  • Create a low barrier for a temporary run-out in the house.
  • Regularly check that all connections and panels are securely fastened.

Can the top be closed?

Yes, the top can be closed off with extra panels. However, please keep in mind that a large continuous roof may sag. If you are making a lid or roof with panels, we recommend an extra partition or support in the middle for more stability.

For guinea pigs, an open top is fine in many indoor setups, as long as the environment is safe and no other pets can get to them. If you have cats, dogs, or other animals in the house, extra shielding or supervision is important.

In this video, you will see how the indoor run can be assembled and used. Use the video primarily as practical inspiration for your own guinea pig setup.

Use as a rabbit run

For rabbits, this run can be useful as a temporary indoor run, enclosure, or extra space for movement under supervision. We do not recommend this run as a permanent rabbit cage or unsecured primary enclosure. Rabbits can push, jump, and gnaw more strongly than guinea pigs, requiring extra supervision.

If you use the run for rabbits, place it only in a safe room, check that the panels are securely fastened, and do not leave your rabbit inside unattended if escape or gnawing behavior occurs.

Assembly and use

The panels simply click together using the accompanying connectors. Place the run directly on a flat floor or on a suitable floor cover. After assembly, check that the panels are straight and the corners are sturdy.

  • Gently click the panels together.
  • Place the run on a flat surface.
  • Use a bottom cover, fleece, mats, or suitable bedding.
  • Regularly check that the couplings are properly tightened.
  • Expand the run when you keep more guinea pigs or want more running space.
  • Use as a rabbit run only under supervision.
