Product description

DRD Rodent Shop ® Fruit mix for rodents and birds

DRD Knaagdierwinkel ® Fruitmix is a colorful and tasty mix of dried fruits for rodents and birds. The combination of banana, goji berries, cranberry, pineapple, papaya, and coconut provides variety in taste, smell, and texture. This makes the mix great as a small snack, reward, or foraging extra.

Fruit is naturally flavorful and loved by many animals, but it remains a treat. Therefore, you should not give this mix as a main food, but as a small treat alongside an appropriate basic diet. For example, scatter a few pieces among hay, herbs, bedding, or in a snack bowl so that your animal can actively search and sniff.

Nutrition in brief

  • Suitable as a small snack, reward, or foraging extra.
  • For various rodents and birds
  • Fun to mix with herbs or hide in a snack platter
  • Not suitable for chinchillas and degus

Advantages of the DRD Fruit Mix

Wide variety of flavors: with banana, goji berries, cranberry, pineapple, papaya, and coconut.
Great as a reward: small pieces of fruit are handy to give specifically and in moderation.
Ideal for foraging: hide a few pieces in the enclosure, among herbs, or in a snack bowl.
Also for birds: suitable as a varied snack for birds that are allowed to eat fruit.
Colorful snack mix: adds extra scent, color, and texture to snack time.

Why give fruit as a snack?

Fruit can be a nice change of pace alongside the daily diet. It smells appealing, has a different texture than regular kibble or herbs, and is therefore well-suited for use as a reward or for enrichment. Fruit is at its best, especially in small quantities.

Use this Fruit Mix, for example, to make a snack plate more interesting, as a small reward held by hand, or as a search game in the enclosure. By hiding the fruit, you stimulate natural searching behavior and immediately turn a small treat into an activity.

Because fruit naturally contains sugars, moderation is important. It is better to give a small amount occasionally than large quantities daily. Extra caution is advisable for animals prone to being overweight or having a sugar sensitivity.

For which animals is the Fruitmix suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a small snack or foraging reward. Give small pieces and use it as a treat.
  • Dwarf hamster: give in very limited quantities. Preferably avoid for sugar-sensitive animals or animals predisposed to diabetes, or only give a tiny piece very occasionally.
  • Hamster: suitable as a small treat in moderation. Hide a few pieces in the enclosure for extra searching fun.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a small snack and as a variation alongside a good basic diet.
  • Dwarf rat and rat: suitable as a reward, snack, or foraging extra. Rats often appreciate variety in scent and taste.
  • Guinea pig: suitable as a small snack in moderation. Hay, suitable guinea pig food, and fresh vegetables remain the foundation.
  • Rabbit: suitable as a small reward in moderation. Give fruit in limited quantities and always keep hay as the primary base.
  • Birds: suitable as a snack for bird species that are allowed to eat fruit. Give small amounts alongside the normal food.
  • Chinchilla and degu: not suitable. We do not recommend fruit mix for these animals.

How do you feed the Fruit Mix?

Give the Fruit Mix as a supplementary snack alongside the normal main food. Start with a small amount, especially if your animal is not yet used to fruit. You can give the pieces separately, mix them with a herb mix, or hide them in a foraging area.

For extra enrichment, you can hide a few pieces of fruit among hay , herbs , or in aforaging toy . This requires your animal to search and sniff, making snack time longer and more interesting.
