Product description

JR Farm Stuffed Pinecones 2 pieces for rodents and birds

JR Farm Stuffed Pinecones are small, natural snack challenges for animals that love to sniff, pick, gnaw, and search. The pinecones are filled with a tasty mix of ingredients including millet, peanuts, carrots, and parsley, ensuring your pet not only gets a delicious treat but is also genuinely occupied for a while.

This 2-pack is ideal when you want to create multiple snack times or offer something in different locations for social animals. At DRD, we like to look at snacks that do more than just get eaten quickly. These filled pinecones give your animal something to explore and fit nicely into a naturally decorated enclosure, a foraging corner, or a playful snack routine.

Why choose JR Farm Stuffed Pinecones?

Many snacks disappear quickly. These filled pine cones make snack time more interesting because the treats are nestled between the scales of the pine cone. Your pet has to sniff, pull, nibble, or peck to get to the filling. This makes the snack not only tasty but also a small activity.

For small rodents, pine cones serve as fun natural enrichment in their enclosure. They fit nicely among bedding, in a scape corner, near a foraging spot, or on a secure hanging place. For rats and pygmy rats, they are particularly interesting as a toddler-like challenge. For birds, they align well with pecking, exploring, and engaging with natural materials.

The filling contains, among other things, La Plata millet, manna millet, peanut, carrot, parsley, and silver millet. This makes it an attractive snack with plenty of aroma and texture. You intentionally give the pine cones as an extra treat alongside the normal diet.

For which animals are JR Farm Stuffed Pinecones suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a shared foraging snack. Because mice are social animals and should be kept with other mice of their kind, you can conveniently distribute the two pine cones throughout the enclosure.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as an occasional snack challenge. Place the pine cone on a stable surface or hang it low so that your dwarf hamster can reach it quietly.
  • Hamster: suitable as a natural snack and activity in a hamster enclosure. The pine cone fits nicely into a hamsterscaping setup or foraging corner.
  • Gerbil: suitable for gerbils that like to gnaw, pull, and explore. Because gerbils are social animals and should be kept with other gerbils, two pine cones are practical for better distributing the snacking pressure.
  • Dwarf rat: suitable as a toddler and snack challenge. Dwarf rats can vary in size, so always check if the size and hanging location suit your animals.
  • Rat: suitable as active snack enrichment. Rats are smart animals and often enjoy snacks that require them to really work for them.
  • Bird: suitable as a natural bird snack for parakeets, canaries, and exotic birds, among others. The pine cones can be hung in the bird enclosure.

For guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, we prefer fiber-rich herbs, leaves, flowers, or hay enrichment. These filled pine cones are better suited for small rodents that can get seeds and kernels as a snack, and for birds that like to peck and dig.

How do you use the filled pine cones?

You can hang the JR Farm Stuffed Pinecones in the enclosure, on the bars, or in an aviary. Hanging them makes snack time more active, as your animal has to work to get to the filling. For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, hanging them low or placing them stably is often the most pleasant. For mice, rats, and birds, the snack can be placed in a slightly more challenging location, as long as the animal can reach it safely.

The package contains two pine cones. This is handy when you have multiple animals or when you want to offer something in different places in the enclosure. With social animals, this helps prevent one animal from hogging the entire snack. Always observe how your animals interact with it and adjust the placement accordingly.

Give the pine cones as a supplementary snack and not in unlimited quantities. Due to the seeds and peanuts, this is a richer treat. You can leave the snack in the enclosure as long as it remains dry, clean, and tidy. If you want better rationing, you can also offer the pine cone temporarily and reuse it later.

It is preferable not to use pine cones gathered from nature. With self-collected pine cones, you do not always know if the species is suitable or if there is still resin, dirt, or small creatures between the scales. These pine cones are intended as a pet snack and are therefore a much more logical choice.

Composition & analysis

Composition: pine nuts, filling: La Plata millet, manna millet, vegetable starch, peanuts 13%, carrots, parsley 4.3%, silver millet.

Analytical constituents: protein 11%, fat content 8.7%, crude fiber 6.5%, crude ash 3%, calcium 630 mg/kg, phosphorus 1070 mg/kg, sodium 230 mg/kg.

This composition makes the filled pinecones particularly suitable as a tasty supplementary snack. The millet and peanut make the filling appealing, while the pinecone itself ensures that your pet has to search and pick at it. This makes it a great choice when you are looking for a snack that also provides immediate activity.

Good to know

  • Give these pine cones as a supplementary snack alongside the normal daily diet.
  • Due to the seeds and peanuts, offering them consciously makes the most sense.
  • Hang the pine cone securely or lay it down stably.
  • Check occasionally to see if the snack remains dry, clean, and tidy.
  • For guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, we prefer to recommend fiber-rich snack varieties.

Nice to combine with

Do you want to create more foraging fun in the enclosure? Then combine these filled pine cones with other forms of searching, gnawing, and discovering. Think of interactive snacks , gnawing material ,play & foraging , or suitable seeds & kernels as small extras.

Frequently asked questions about JR Farm Stuffed Pinecones

Are these stuffed pine cones suitable for hamsters?
Yes, the pine cones are suitable as an occasional snack challenge for hamsters and dwarf hamsters. Place them on a stable surface or hang them low and within easy reach.

What is the difference compared to the XL filled pinecone?
This pack contains two smaller filled pine cones. This is handy when you want to distribute the snack across multiple locations or multiple animals. The XL variant is larger and more for a single, central snack moment.

Can the pine cones be left in the enclosure?
Yes, that is possible as long as they stay dry, clean, and tidy. If you want to portion the snack better, you can also offer them temporarily and give them again later.

Are these pine cones suitable for rats?
Yes, for rats, the filled pine cones are fun as a toddler and foraging challenge. You can hang them up or place them in a stable spot.

Are they suitable for degus or chinchillas?
For degus and chinchillas, we prefer fiber-rich herbs, leaves, flowers, or other simple snack varieties. These pine cones are richer due to the seeds and peanuts.

May I use pine cones from the forest myself?
We do not recommend that. With self-collected pine cones, you do not always know if the species is suitable or if there is resin, dirt, or small insects inside. It is better to use a pine cone that is offered specifically as a pet snack.
