DRD Knaagdierwinkel ® Gammarus Water Crayfish are sun-dried flake crustaceans for small rodents that benefit from animal protein as a supplement to their diet. They are light, crunchy, and rich in protein, making them ideal as a small snack, reward, or foraging extra.
These Gammarus are primarily intended for protein-eating rodents such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, gerbils, and rats. They are also interesting for fat-tailed gerbils, as this species naturally eats insects and small animal food sources. Gammarus are not suitable for true herbivores, such as guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus.
✔ Protein-rich snack: a natural animal protein source for small omnivorous rodents.
✔ 100% sun-dried: pure dried water crayfish without complicated additives.
✔ Crunchy texture: light and crispy, making them appealing to many small rodents.
✔ Ideal for foraging: hide a few Gammarus in a snack plate, among herbs, or in the substrate.
✔ Nice change of pace: handy to use alongside mealworms, crickets, or other insects for variety.
Not all rodents are strict herbivores. Mice, hamsters, dwarf hamsters, gerbils, and rats naturally have a more varied diet and can be given animal protein as a supplement. Gammarus water crayfish fit well into that variety, especially when you want to offer small amounts as a snack or reward.
Gammarus are also known as amphipods. They are small crustaceans that naturally occur in aquatic environments. Drying keeps them easy to store and convenient to dose. You should always feed them as a supplement, alongside a complete basic diet suitable for the species.
Use Gammarus as a foraging snack, for example. Scatter a few crayfish among dry herbs, in a snack plate, or at a safe foraging spot in the enclosure. This way, snacking becomes not only tasty but also a small activity.
The fat-tailed gerbil has different nutritional needs than many other small rodents. This species naturally also eats insects and animal protein. A good basic diet remains important, but you can also vary the diet with dried insects and small animal snacks such as Gammarus, mealworms, crickets, or other insect mixes.

Always give Gammarus as a supplementary snack and not as a main food. Start with a small amount, especially if your animal is not yet used to this product. You can feed the crayfish by hand, mix them into the food, or use them as a foraging snack.
For extra enrichment, you can hide a few Gammarus in aforaging toy , snack plate, dry herb mix, or among the bedding. This requires your animal to sniff and search, making the snack more interesting.
Composition: sun-dried Gammarus water crustaceans.
Gammarus naturally contain animal proteins and other nutrients. Precisely because they are concentrated, you should feed them in small quantities. A few water crayfish are often enough as a treat for small animals.
Store the Gammarus in a cool, dry, and dark place in a well-sealed container. An airtight jar is convenient to keep the water crayfish dry and crisp. Refrigeration is not necessary, as long as the packaging remains tightly closed and does not become damp.
Gammarus Water Crayfish are intended as a supplementary animal snack for protein-eating rodents. Do not give them to herbivores such as guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus. Always check if your animal tolerates the snack well and do not give too much at once.
