Rodipet distinguishes between junior and senior food. Junior food is suitable for animals up to 12 weeks of age, while senior food is suitable for animals from the 12th week of life. In practice, senior food can also be given to younger animals.

Over the course of a dwarf hamster's life, its behavior and nutritional needs change. Young animals need plenty of protein, among other things, to ensure healthy development; young adult hamsters have higher energy needs when they leave their mother's nest for their own territory and search for a mate; and older animals need more fiber and vital nutrients to grow healthily.
