In an enclosure, this is limited – that's why good summer products help you make the gerbilarium more comfortable: a cool place to lie down , a cool hiding place , and furnishings that retain less heat.

When do gerbils need cooling?
Keep a close eye on your gerbils when the temperature in your home approaches 25°C or higher. Signs of overheating can include: lying down more often on a platform/cool spot, being less active, or clearly seeking out the coolest corner of their enclosure. Prevention is truly better than "fixing it later."

Practical cooling tips for your gerbil cage or gerbilarium

- Use a cooling stone/cooling plate as a “choice spot”: your gerbil decides when to lie down on it.

- Leave enough digging space : gerbils like to regulate their own “microclimate” in the enclosure.
Tip: Combine summer products with a smart base such as gerbil bedding (deep enough for digging) and provide enrichment so that your gerbils don't start nibbling on parts out of boredom.
Maintenance – fresh, dry and hygienic
Clean cooling stones/cooling plates regularly and dry them thoroughly before returning them to the enclosure. Check daily for any substrate or debris adhering to them. For drinking systems, refresh the water daily and clean it more thoroughly weekly. This way, cooling remains truly enjoyable.
