The Getzoo Watchbox Tunnel is a special wooden tunnel for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils. It is not an ordinary straight tunnel, but a combination of a running area, a sloping path, and a sheltered chamber. This allows your animal to walk through the tunnel, take shelter, sniff around, and explore the space in a natural way.
At DRD, when it comes to tunnels, we focus primarily on function, size, and how the item is used in the enclosure. This watchbox fits nicely in a spacious hamsterscaping or gerbilscaping enclosure, where your animal needs not only decoration but also routes, shelter, and places to explore quietly.
✔ Tunnel, route, and sheltered room in one
✔ Great for hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping
✔ With sloping tread and grip grooves
✔ Entrance of approx. 11 × 8 cm, also comfortable for hamsters
✔ Nice watchbox to better observe behavior without constantly disturbing the enclosure
A watchbox is interesting because it makes visible behavior that normally often remains hidden. Hamsters and other small rodents like to move through sheltered routes and use tunnels to get from one place to another. With this watchbox, you can better see how your animal walks, explores, grooms, rests, or just sits in the room for a moment.
The combination of a walking area and a chamber makes the tunnel more versatile than a standard tube. Your animal can use the tunnel as a passageway, a quiet stop, or an extra hiding place within the enclosure. This gives the enclosure more structure and makes routes more natural.
The opening of approx. 11 × 8 cm also makes this watchbox interesting for hamsters that need a bit more space at the entrance. The sloping route with grip grooves helps to make the path easier to navigate, especially when the watchbox is placed slightly elevated or partially embedded in the bedding.
For pygmy rats, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, this watchbox is not the right choice as a functional tunnel or hiding place. The size and layout are less suitable for that purpose.
In hamsterscaping, you can use the watchbox as a route between two zones. Place it, for example, between a sand zone and a small house, alongside a herb corner, or as a striking wooden element in a natural setting. Thanks to the train-like design, the enclosure immediately gains more depth and character.
For dwarf hamsters, the watchbox works well as a sheltered route and observation spot. For Syrian hamsters, pay close attention to body size and how your animal moves through the entrance. The entrance of approx. 11 × 8 cm is spacious, but placement and accessibility remain important.
For gerbils, it is preferable to place the watchbox firmly on the bottom or on a well-supported spot. Gerbils dig frequently and can displace bedding, which means lightweight accessories could otherwise sink or become tilted.
Always place the watchbox on a stable surface. You can place it low in the enclosure, tuck it partially against the bedding, or use it as a transition between different zones. Keep the entrance clear so your animal can easily go in and out.
Use the watchbox, for example:
Check regularly for gnaw marks, loose edges, moisture spots, or wear. Replace the item when it is no longer neat or sturdy.
The Getzoo Watchbox Tunnel is primarily intended as a tunnel, route, and observation point. For a permanent nesting site, a suitable house or multi-chamber house remains important. This allows your animal to choose between a quiet main hiding place and an extra route or intermediate chamber in the enclosure.
Therefore, combine this watchbox with, for example, a spacious wooden house, deep bedding, a sand bath, tunnels, twigs, herbs, and a suitable running wheel. This creates an enclosure with multiple functions: sleeping, digging, walking, searching, hiding, and observing.
Wood is a natural material. As a result, color, grain, and finish may vary slightly from product to product. This fits perfectly with a natural interior.
The current product name mentions “30 cm”, while the total length of the item is approximately 40 cm. That 30 cm refers to the walking area. Therefore, for placement in the enclosure, it is better to take into account the total length of approximately 40 cm.
A warm landscaping tip: subtly conceal the sides of the watchbox with bedding, cork, moss, or light natural decorations. However, keep the entrance and walkway clear so that your animal can continue to use the tunnel comfortably.
This watchbox is suitable for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils. For larger animals such as rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, you would prefer a larger tunnel or hiding place.
The 30 cm refers to the walking surface. The total length of the item is approximately 40 cm. Therefore, take the total length into account when arranging.
Yes, the opening of approx. 11 × 8 cm makes the watchbox interesting for hamsters. However, always consider your animal's build and place the item stably in a spacious enclosure.
The watchbox can be used as an extra sheltered spot, but is primarily intended as a tunnel, route, and observation point. For the permanent nest site, a suitable house or multi-chamber house remains important.
The sloping path helps your animal overcome the height more easily. The grip grooves provide extra grip while walking.
Yes, this watch box fits very nicely into hamsterscaping. Use it as a route, observation point, or wooden scaping element between bedding, sand baths, houses, and tunnels.
Yes, the watchbox can be used in gerbilscaping. Place it securely and check regularly for gnawing marks and wear.
Wipe the wood dry or slightly damp when necessary and let it dry thoroughly. Also check for old food residue, damp spots, or damage.
With the Getzoo Watchbox Tunnel, you give mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils a tunnel, route, and observation spot all in one. A great choice for owners who not only want to create a natural enclosure but also want to better observe how their animal moves, explores, and utilizes the space.
