The Grey Ceramic Cooling Stone provides your pet with a cooler spot in the enclosure during warm days. Ceramic feels naturally cool and can be used as a lying, sitting, or resting spot whenever your pet needs it. This way, your pet can choose whether to lie on the cooling stone or prefer to stay somewhere else in the enclosure.

On warm days, many animals naturally seek out a cooler surface. A ceramic cooling stone gives your animal this extra option in its enclosure. Your animal can lie on it, sit on it, or simply walk past it whenever it feels the need.
This is especially nice because your animal can decide for itself when to use the cooling stone. The stone is not a substitute for shade, ventilation, and a well-furnished enclosure, but it is a practical extra place to seek coolness.
For pet owners, a cooling stone is a simple way to get the enclosure ready for summer. You place the stone on a stable spot, and your pet can use it whenever it feels comfortable. No cords, batteries, or complicated parts are required.
At DRD, when it comes to cooling products, we focus primarily on practical use and freedom of choice for the animal. A cooling stone works well because it lies quietly in the enclosure, allowing your animal to choose whether or not to lie on it.
Choose the size based on your animal's body size and how you want to use the cooling stone. For a small animal, a small stone may be sufficient as a spot for the paws or belly. For larger animals, a larger stone is more comfortable so they can really lie on it.
| Mate | Practical for |
| 12 × 8 × 0.7 cm | Mice and dwarf hamsters; also handy as a small cool spot in a wildlife enclosure. |
| 20 × 15 × 0.7 cm | Hamsters, gerbils, dwarf rats, and rats; also suitable if you want a little more lying space. |
| 28.5 × 20.5 × 0.7 cm | Guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus; also nice for animals that like to have more space to lie down. |
For mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, the cooling stone can be a nice resting spot in the enclosure. Place the stone down stably, for example on a flat piece of bedding, on a low, sturdy platform, or in a shady part of the enclosure.
For hamsters and gerbils, it is helpful to place the stone so that it cannot be completely buried. This way, it remains easily accessible and your pet can use it easily when seeking coolness.
Dwarf rats and rats can use the cooling stone as a cooler resting spot in the cage or run. Place it on a stable surface, for example on a low platform or on a flat spot where it cannot slide.
For rats, the middle or largest size is often the most comfortable, depending on the size of your animals and whether they want to lie on it alone or together.
For guinea pigs and rabbits, the largest size makes the most sense. They need more body space to lie comfortably on the stone. Place the cooling stone in a shady, dry corner of the enclosure or run.
Shade is especially important for outdoor structures. Never place ceramics in direct sunlight, as the material can actually heat up. Therefore, check regularly whether the stone still feels pleasantly cool.
Chinchillas and degus can also seek out a cooler surface on warm days. The largest size is usually the most practical for these animals. Place the stone stably and ensure it cannot tip over or slide when your animal jumps on it or walks over it.
Use the cooling stone as an additional choice spot alongside good ventilation, shade, a suitable enclosure, and a quiet interior. Especially in warm weather, it is nice for animals to have different places to choose where they want to lie down.
Place the cooling stone on a stable, flat spot in the enclosure. Preferably choose a spot in the shade and not directly next to a heat source or window. Your animal must be able to choose for itself whether it wants to lie on the stone or prefers another spot.
| Usage | Practical tip |
| Normal use | Place the stone in a stable, dry, and shady spot in the enclosure. |
| Extra cooling | Place the stone briefly in the refrigerator and then place it back in the enclosure. |
| Country residence | Use only in the shade and check that the stone does not get hot from sunlight. |
| Deep ground cover | Place the stone stably so that it cannot tip over or become completely buried. |
For extra cooling, you can briefly place the cooling stone in the refrigerator. Afterwards, place it in a spot where your pet can choose whether or not to lie on it. Do not use the stone ice-cold straight from the freezer; a refrigerator is sufficient to make the ceramic feel extra cool.
Always check how the stone feels with your hand before placing it back. It should be pleasantly cool, not unpleasantly cold.
The cooling stone is made of unglazed, rough ceramic. As a result, the surface feels different from smooth glazed ceramic. When your pet walks over it regularly, the rough texture can contribute slightly to the natural wear and tear of the nails.
View this as an extra, not as a replacement for regular nail checks. It remains important to check nails regularly, especially for guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus.
Clean the cooling stone with lukewarm water and a soft brush or cloth. Let the stone dry thoroughly before placing it back in the enclosure. Do not use harsh cleaning agents.
Because the ceramic is unglazed and rough, small imperfections may be visible. This is characteristic of this material. However, do check regularly to ensure the stone remains intact and does not have any sharp damage.
A cooling stone works best when your pet can choose for itself. Therefore, do not place it on the only resting spot, but offer it as an extra option in the enclosure. This way, your pet can alternate between a cooler spot, bedding, a house, a tunnel, or another resting place.
Always use the stone in the shade for outdoor enclosures. Ceramic can heat up in the sun, making it less comfortable. Therefore, always check the temperature of the stone before your animal lies on it.
You use the cooling stone as an extra cool lying or resting spot during warm days. Your pet can choose for itself whether it wants to lie on it.
The cooling stone is available in approx. 12 × 8 × 0.7 cm, 20 × 15 × 0.7 cm and 28.5 × 20.5 × 0.7 cm.

Yes, you can briefly place the cooling stone in the refrigerator for extra cooling. Afterwards, check with your hand if it feels pleasantly cool.
We recommend the refrigerator. This way, the stone cools down without becoming unpleasantly cold.
For dwarf hamsters, the smallest size is often practical. For Syrian hamsters, the medium size is usually more comfortable, as it provides more lying space.
For guinea pigs and rabbits, preferably choose the largest size so that they can lie on it more comfortably.
Yes, the cooling stone can be suitable as a cooling resting point. Choose a generous size and place it stably in the enclosure.
