Why choose Huis Jerrik?

Small rodents enjoy having multiple sheltered spots in their enclosure. A small house provides peace, security, and freedom of choice. Your pet can decide for itself whether it wants to be visible, sleep, hoard, or prefer to sit under a sheltered spot for a while.

House Jerrik is compact and therefore easy to place. This is handy when you want to offer multiple hiding spots in an enclosure without immediately losing a lot of walking space. Thanks to its square shape, you can place the house nicely in a corner or incorporate it among bedding, tunnels, moss, and other natural materials.

The small flat roof is simply part of the house and can be explored or walked on by suitable animals when the house is standing low and stable. Always position the house so that it cannot tip over or sink when your animal walks over it or digs around it.

How do you use House Jerrik in the accommodation?

  • Place the house low and stable on, or lightly in, the bedding.
  • Use it as an extra shelter, sleeping place, or resting spot.
  • Place nesting material nearby so that your animal can choose what to take.
  • Combine with tunnels, cork, moss, or a willow bridge for more route options.
  • Regularly check that the wood, the entrance, and the edges remain neat.

For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, placing them at a low level is most comfortable. These animals live primarily on and in the substrate. For gerbils, stability is especially important because they dig actively and may work around houses.

For which animals is Trixie Huis Jerrik suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a small shelter or extra resting place. For groups of mice, a larger communal home is also pleasant.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a compact house in a hamsterscape. The round entrance suits small dwarf hamsters well.
  • Hamster: suitable for smaller hamsters. For larger Syrian hamsters, it is advisable to check whether the opening and interior space are spacious enough.
  • Gerbil: suitable as an extra wooden hiding place or landscaping element. Gerbils can gnaw vigorously, so check the house regularly for wear and tear.

For rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, this house is too small as a proper shelter or sleeping place. For these animals, you would prefer to choose a larger house that better suits their size and way of moving.

Hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping

Thanks to its natural wood look, House Jerrik fits beautifully into a layout featuring bedding, cork, moss, tunnels, and willow bridges. You can use the little house as a small resting place between different zones, for example, between a digging area, a sand area, and a hiding route.

  • Use the small house as a compact wooden element in the scape.
  • Finish the edges with ground cover or moss for a natural transition.
  • Combine with cork tunnels or willow bridges for additional routes.
  • Place the house securely, especially for animals that like to dig around it.

Do you want the little house to look even more natural? Then place a small amount of dried moss next to the house or around the base. This way, it blends in nicely with the rest of the decor.

Resin-free wood and bark wood for rodents and rabbits

About bark wood and a natural look

Wooden products with bark have a natural and rustic appearance. As a result, each house may look slightly different. Occasionally, a small piece of bark may come loose. This is part of the natural material and usually does not affect the function of the house.

Be sure to inspect wooden houses regularly. When sharp edges, loose parts, or severe gnawing damage appear, it is time to repair or replace the house.

Material and dimensions

  • Dimensions: approx. 15 × 13 × 14 cm
  • Opening: approx. ø 5.5 cm
  • Material: wood / bark wood
  • Open bottom: yes
  • Use: shelter, sleeping place and landscaping element
  • Suitable for: mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters and gerbils
  • Safety advice: only offer under supervision and check regularly for wear

Cleaning and maintenance

  • Regularly remove nesting material, leftover food, and bedding from and around the house.
  • Clean the wood locally only when necessary.
  • Let the little house dry thoroughly before putting it back.
  • Regularly check the entrance, edges, and roof for wear.
  • Replace the housing when it is damaged or no longer remains sturdy.

Wood looks its best when used dry. Therefore, do not place the house directly under a water bottle or in a spot where it gets wet quickly. Does your pet use the house as a toilet area? Then it is better to provide a separate toilet or sand area and move the house to a drier corner.
