Product description

Washable Grey Pee Mat for guinea pigs, rabbits, rats, and ferrets

The Grey Washable Pee Mat is a practical, absorbent mat for areas where animals like to lie down, urinate, or make frequent use of. Think of a favorite corner in the enclosure, under a shelter, in a run, on a fleece pad, or as an extra protective layer in a frequently used spot. The mat feels soft, absorbs moisture, and helps keep the surface cleaner.

When it comes to pee pads, DRD focuses primarily on practical use: where does your animal like to lie, where do wet spots form, and how can you easily keep that spot clean without constantly replacing the entire setup? This washable pee pad is reusable, machine washable, and available in multiple sizes, so you can choose the size that fits your enclosure and usage area.

Why choose a washable pee mat?

Many animals have specific spots where they like to lie down or urinate. With guinea pigs, you often see this under houses, in hay corners, or at favorite resting spots. Rabbits also often choose specific corners or soft resting places. Rats may have favorite urination routes, hanging spots, and resting zones. With a washable pee pad, you can provide extra protection for precisely those spots.

Instead of constantly replacing a large part of the bedding, fleece liner, or enclosure setup, you can use a smaller mat for specific tasks. Is the mat wet or dirty? Then you take it out, wash it, and put a clean mat back. That makes keeping it clean more manageable.

The combination of polyester and cotton ensures a soft top and good moisture absorption. Because cotton is incorporated, the mat feels less cold and plastic-like when wet than fully synthetic fleece. This makes it comfortable for animals that like to lie on soft spots.

For which animals is the Washable Pee Mat suitable?

  • Guinea pig: very suitable as an extra mat on favorite resting and potty spots, for example under houses, in a hay corner, on a fleece liner, or in a C&C enclosure. A dry, clean resting spot can be especially pleasant for long-haired guinea pigs.
  • Rabbit: suitable as a soft protective mat in a run, rabbit room, or at a designated resting place. Use the mat especially in places where your rabbit lies quietly and does not actively gnaw on dust.
  • Rat: suitable as a pee mat in resting places, in a run, or in a place where rats like to lie down. Do not use the mat if your rats start gnawing on it or dragging it around.
  • Chinchilla: suitable as a temporary or targeted mat in a dry resting place, provided your animal does not gnaw on dust. Do not use the mat in wet areas and check carefully for signs of gnawing.
  • Ferret: suitable as a soft, washable mat in a resting place, run, or separate play area. For ferrets, also check regularly to ensure the edges or fabric are not being gnawed on.

For mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, this pee mat is not suitable as standard bedding. These animals benefit most from a thick layer of diggable bedding, nesting material, and hiding places. Fabric mats may make less sense for small rodents and are more easily undermined, gnawed to pieces, or pulled apart as nesting material.

Which size do you choose?

The Grey Washable Pee Mat is available in three sizes. Choose the size based on the area you want to protect, not just on the animal species.

  • 40 × 60 cm: handy for smaller resting places, under a dog house, in a transport box, or at a designated potty spot.
  • 60 × 60 cm: practical for a larger corner, under a favorite resting area, or as an extra mat in a guinea pig or rabbit run.
  • 90 × 60 cm: nice for a larger surface area, for example for guinea pigs who like to lie on one larger fleece section or in a run where you want more protection.

Unsure between two sizes? Then look at your animal's behavior. If your animal always lies in the same small spot, a smaller size is often sufficient. If a larger area gets wet or a group of animals uses the same corner, a larger mat is more practical.

Use in a guinea pig enclosure

For guinea pigs, a washable pee pad is especially handy in areas where they frequently lie down, eat, or urinate. For example, place the mat under a house, near a favorite resting spot, or on a part of the fleece liner that gets wet quickly. This way, you protect the underlayer and can clean it more precisely.

In a C&C enclosure, the mat can work well as an extra layer on top of fleece or as a separate mat in areas that are used more frequently. For long-haired guinea pigs, a dry, soft surface can also help keep the coat cleaner, especially around favorite resting spots.

Do not use the mat as the sole bedding if your guinea pigs also have a strong need for hay corners, toilet corners, or other absorbent zones. View the pee mat primarily as a smart addition to the enclosure.

Use for rabbits

For rabbits, the Grey Washable Pee Mat is handy in a run, rabbit room, or at a designated resting spot. Many rabbits choose their own favorite places to lie down. By placing a washable mat there, you make that spot softer and easier to keep clean.

Pay close attention to gnawing behavior. Some rabbits leave fabric materials alone, while others will pull or gnaw at them. Remove the mat if your rabbit damages the edges, pulls out threads, or tries to eat pieces of fabric.

For litter training, a well-placed rabbit toilet with suitable litter often remains the foundation. The pee pad is primarily intended as extra protection or comfort in places where your rabbit likes to lie down.

For use with rats and ferrets

Rats and ferrets may find soft mats pleasant in resting areas or in a separate play space. The mat can help protect surfaces and provides more grip than a smooth floor.

Always use the mat with extra supervision around rats and ferrets. Both animals may pull on fabric, labels, seams, or edges. Is the mat being gnawed to pieces or are loose threads coming loose? Then remove it.

For rats, the mat can also be temporarily useful in a run or at a fixed spot outside the cage. Inside the cage itself, its suitability depends heavily on your group and their gnawing behavior.

Use for chinchillas

For chinchillas, a pee mat must always remain dry. Chinchillas have a dense coat, and damp spots are unpleasant. Therefore, use the pee mat only in a dry resting place and not in wet or dirty areas.

Additionally, check whether your chinchilla is gnawing on the material. Chinchillas can actively gnaw, and loose dust particles are undesirable. If in doubt, a sturdy, dry, dust-free substrate is often the more logical choice.

Washing advice and maintenance

The Washable Pee Mat can be washed in the washing machine at 60 degrees. Shake out loose hair, hay, and bedding thoroughly before putting the mat in the washing machine. This keeps your washing machine cleaner and ensures the mat washes better.

Preferably use a detergent without strong perfume. Fabric softener is usually not necessary and can reduce moisture absorption. Let the mat dry thoroughly before putting it back, so that your pet can lie on a fresh, dry spot again.

Check the mat for wear, loose seams, damaged edges, or thin spots after every wash. Replace the mat when it no longer absorbs properly or when loose parts appear.

Combine smartly for extra protection

Do you want to protect a specific spot extra well? Then you can combine the Washable Pee Mat with a fleece liner, bottom mat, or separate underlay. For animals that urinate frequently in one spot, it is handy to have multiple pee mats: one in use, one in the wash, and one clean in stock.

If you use an extra absorbent underlay, such as a disposable pad, always place it out of reach of your animal and under a secure top layer. Disposable pads are not intended to be placed loosely in the enclosure where animals can pull or gnaw on them.

Great to combine with

The Grey Washable Pee Mat fits well with a practical and hygienic interior. You can combine it with:

Good to know

Offer the Grey Washable Pee Mat only under supervision and check regularly for wear. Look out for loose threads, damaged edges, gnaw marks, and thin spots. Do not use the mat if your animal gnaws on it, dislodges pieces of fabric, or drags it around. For small rodents such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, a diggable bedding is a better base than a fabric pee mat.
