Bunny Nature GerbilDroom Expert 500 grams is a complete gerbil food without pellets or extrudates. It is a natural granivore mix containing various seeds, flakes, herbs, and animal proteins from insects. As a result, this food is well-suited for gerbils that enjoy searching, sorting, nibbling, and actively engaging with their food.
At DRD, when it comes to gerbil food, we focus primarily on composition, structure, animal proteins, foraging behavior, and how easily the food can be incorporated into a natural gerbil routine. GerbilDroom Expert is not a uniform kibble, but a true mix with recognizable components such as flat millet, canary seed, quinoa, mung bean sprouts, dandelion, narrow-leaved plantain, mealworms, and house crickets.
✔ Complete gerbil food as a daily basis
✔ Without pellets and without extrudates
✔ Authentic mixed texture with seeds, flakes, herbs, and insects
✔ With mealworms and house crickets as animal protein sources
✔ Great for natural foraging
✔ Interesting for Mongolian gerbils and as a basis for fat-tailed gerbils with extra insects
Gerbils are active, curious animals. They enjoy digging, searching, collecting, and eating small amounts spread throughout the day. A varied mix suits this perfectly, as it gives gerbils something to discover. Instead of a single uniform kibble, GerbilDroom Expert consists of different textures, scents, and sizes.
The insects in this food are a valuable addition. Gerbils are granivores, but animal proteins also fit their natural dietary profile. The combination of seeds, grains, herbs, and insects makes GerbilDroom Expert a complete and varied basis for the daily menu.
Because this mix is pellet-free, it remains important to check whether your gerbils are eating the entire mix. Only refill the food bowl when most of the components have been eaten. This prevents them from choosing only their favorite seeds and keeps the diet better balanced.
This food is specifically intended for gerbils. For mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, dwarf rats, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, you should preferably choose food formulated specifically for those species.
A pellet-free mix is interesting if you want to offer your gerbils more variety in texture and foraging behavior. Gerbils can then truly engage with their food: smelling, searching, sorting, and collecting. This fits nicely with a natural setup featuring deep bedding, tunnels, a sand bath, and foraging spots.
If you want maximum control per bite, an all-in-one kibble or pellet can be handy. If you want to feed more naturally and stimulate more foraging behavior, a mix like GerbilDroom Expert is a great choice. At DRD, we focus primarily on what suits your animals, your enclosure, and your feeding methods.
Yes, for fat-tailed gerbils, extra attention to animal protein is important. GerbilDroom Expert already contains mealworms and crickets, but for fat-tailed gerbils it is wise to also offer additional insects, such as dried mealworms, crickets, or a suitable insect mix.
For this, also check out our insects for gerbils and fat-tailed gerbils . This way, you can better tailor the menu to your pet's needs.
According to Bunny Nature, GerbilDroom Expert can be offered freely. In practice, however, many owners prefer to monitor the quantity, especially with a natural mix. Fill the food bowl, let your gerbils eat the mix thoroughly, and only refill when there is hardly any food left. This gives them the chance to eat all components of the mix.
You can offer the food in two ways: partly in a bowl for a clear overview, and partly as foraging food in the enclosure. For example, scatter a small portion in a clean, dry corner, in a foraging toy, or among natural materials. This way, eating becomes an activity as well.
| Usage | How to offer it? | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| In the food bowl | Serve a portion and only refill when the mix has been completely eaten. | This way you can see better what is being left behind. |
| As a foraging moment | Scatter a small amount on a clean, dry spot or hide it in a foraging toy. | This is how you stimulate natural search behavior. |
Gerbils are social animals and should be kept with other gerbils. Therefore, we calculate below based on 2 gerbils. Because Bunny Nature allows free feeding with this food, this is a practical indication of consumption. Actual consumption depends on size, activity, age, and how much, if anything, is left over.
| Packaging | At 12 g per day combined | At 20 g per day combined |
|---|---|---|
| 500 grams | approx. 42 days for 2 gerbils | approx. 25 days for 2 gerbils |
Calculation aid: volume in grams ÷ total daily portion for 2 gerbils = number of days. If you use more or less per day, the duration of use will adjust automatically.
Plata millet, canary seed, pea flakes, spelt flakes, quinoa seeds 6%, kamut®, mung beans 5%, silver millet, oats, red millet, dari, lucerne, dandelion leaves 3%, puffed amaranth 2.5%, carrots, parsnips, chicory root, sesame, narrow-leaved plantain 1%, oat kernels, calcium carbonate, beetroot, mealworms 1%, chamomile blossoms, house crickets 0.2%, wheat semolina bran. Seeds 54.6%.
This composition is suitable for a pellet-free gerbil food with a wide variety of seeds, flakes, and natural ingredients. The seeds and grains form the granivore base, while dandelion, narrow-leaved plantain, carrot, parsnip, beetroot, and chamomile provide extra scent, texture, and variety. Mealworms and crickets add animal protein, making this mix particularly interesting for gerbils and certainly for owners who also look at the natural nutritional profile.

This analysis corresponds to a complete, pellet-free granivore mix for gerbils. The protein content of 14% and fats of 4% match a varied seed and insect mix. The calcium-phosphorus ratio has been taken into account in the complete composition, making GerbilDroom Expert suitable as a daily basic food.

GerbilDroom Expert is at its best in an active gerbil enclosure with deep bedding, tunnels, a sand bath, hiding places, and foraging opportunities. Precisely because this mix contains various small parts, you can use it effectively to stimulate natural foraging behavior.
