Some animals use textiles very neatly as resting places, while others gnaw on them, pull loose fabric, or try to take pieces of textile with them. Therefore, monitoring remains important, even when an animal group is suitable in principle.

Which size do you choose?

The Fizi Plush Basket is available in two sizes. Choose the size based on your pet's body size and how much space your pet likes to lie down. If you are unsure between the two sizes, the larger size is often more comfortable for pets that like to stretch out.

For rats and pygmy rats: soft resting place

Rats and pygmy rats often enjoy using soft resting places. This basket can be placed on a platform, on the floor, or in a quiet corner of the enclosure. The raised edge provides a sense of security, while the basket remains open enough to easily get in and out.

Be sure to watch out for gnawing behavior with rats. Many rats use textile nets, but some animals like to make holes or pull seams apart. Therefore, check the basket regularly for fraying, loose threads, and gnaw marks.

For guinea pigs: comfortable resting place on the bottom

For guinea pigs, the Fizi Plush Basket is primarily a soft resting place. Place the basket low on the floor, for example in a quiet corner or next to a little house. Guinea pigs are not climbers, so the basket simply needs to be easily accessible without having to jump or clamber.

Only use the basket when your guinea pig leaves textiles clean. Some guinea pigs pull at fabric or nibble on edges. If you see this happening, a sturdy pee pad, bottom mat, or house is often a better choice.

For rabbits: a soft resting place, especially for quiet textile users.

For rabbits, the basket can be a nice, soft resting place, especially in an indoor run or at a designated resting spot. For rabbits, preferably choose the larger size and check that your rabbit has enough room to lie down.

Rabbits can dig, pull, or gnaw on fabric. Therefore, only use the basket when your rabbit uses textiles properly. If the basket is moved, pulled apart, or gnawed on, remove it and choose a sturdier surface or resting place instead.

For ferrets: cozy basket to sleep in

Ferrets often love soft, sheltered resting places. The Fizi Plush Basket can therefore be a nice resting spot in a ferret enclosure or during a quiet moment outside the enclosure. Choose a size in which your ferret can lie comfortably and check regularly to ensure the fabric remains intact.

For chinchillas and degus: only if they do not gnaw on textiles.

Chinchillas and degus are true gnawers. Therefore, this basket is only suitable if your animals leave textiles completely alone. As soon as you see them pulling at the fabric, loosening threads, or making holes, remove the basket from the enclosure immediately.

For chinchillas and degus, sturdy platforms, wooden hiding places, branches, gnawing material, and species-appropriate furnishings remain the most important foundation. This basket is therefore only an extra soft option for animals that use textiles neatly.

For which animals is the Fizi Plush Basket suitable?

• Mouse: not suitable as a standard basket. Mice can gnaw through textiles or carry loose fabric to the nest.
• Dwarf hamster: not suitable. Dwarf hamsters usually do not use textiles as a basket and can gnaw through soft fabric or drag it to the nest.
• Hamster: not suitable. For hamsters, deep bedding, natural nesting material, sand, and sturdy hiding places make more sense than textiles.
• Gerbil: not suitable. Gerbils are real destroyers and gnawers; textiles will likely be destroyed quickly.
• Dwarf grate: suitable as a soft resting place, as long as the basket remains intact and your animal does not gnaw on it.
• Rat: suitable as a soft basket, sleeping place, or resting spot in the enclosure. Check regularly for gnawing damage, loose threads, and fraying.
• Guinea pig: suitable as a soft resting place on the bottom. Choose a size in which your guinea pig can lie comfortably and check that the fabric remains intact.
• Rabbit: suitable as a soft resting place for rabbits that neatly use textiles. Preferably choose the larger size and check for digging, pulling, and gnawing.
• Chinchilla: only suitable if your chinchilla does not destroy or eat textiles. Check very carefully for loose threads, holes, and gnawing damage.
• Degu: only suitable if your degus do not destroy or eat textiles. Degus gnaw intensively, so supervision is extra important.
• Ferret: suitable as a soft basket and resting place, provided the size fits well and the fabric is checked regularly.

How do you use the basket?

Place the basket on a flat, stable surface. Preferably use it in a quiet corner of the enclosure or run so that your animal can truly use it as a resting place. Ensure that the basket is not placed in a wet litter area and remove it when it becomes dirty or damp.

When do you remove the basket?

Remove the basket as soon as your animal chews through the textile, pulls out threads, or tries to eat pieces of fabric. The textile must remain intact to be comfortable and safe to use. Also, if the basket is wet, dirty, or has a strong smell, wash it or replace it temporarily.

For animals that destroy textiles, more natural and sturdier material is often a better choice. Consider wooden houses, cork tunnels, floor mats, pee mats, sturdy platforms, or other materials that are better suited to gnawing behavior.

Cleaning and maintenance

The Fizi Plush Basket can be hand washed. First remove hair, bedding, and loose dirt. Gently hand wash the basket and let it dry completely before putting it back.

After washing, check that the seams, edges, and fabric are still firm. Do not use the basket if the textile has become thin, torn, or frayed.
