Why choose a plush igloo?

At DRD, we always pay close attention to the animal's behavior when it comes to textile products. Textiles are fine when your animal uses them as a resting place or hiding spot. They are less suitable if your animal gnaws on them, pulls at them, or tries to loosen pieces of fabric.

For rats and pygmy rats: cozy sleeping and lying together

Dwarf rats and rats often enjoy using soft resting spots. This igloo can be placed on the floor, on a safe platform, or in a quiet corner of the enclosure. Due to its sheltered shape, it is a nice place to sleep alone or together.

Be sure to watch out for gnawing behavior with rats. Many rats use textile nets, but some animals like to make holes or pull seams apart. Therefore, check the igloo regularly for fraying, loose threads, and gnaw marks.

For guinea pigs: soft hiding place on the bottom

For guinea pigs, the Fizi Plush Igloo is primarily a soft hiding and resting place on the floor. Guinea pigs are not climbers and prefer low houses, tunnels, and resting places they can easily get in and out of. Therefore, place the igloo on a flat, dry spot in the enclosure.

Check if your guinea pig fits comfortably in the igloo and if the opening is easily accessible. Some guinea pigs pull at fabric or nibble on edges. If you see this happening, a sturdy wooden house, tunnel, or floor mat is often a better choice.

For ferrets: soft sleeping place

Ferrets often love soft, sheltered sleeping spots. This igloo can be a nice resting place in a ferret enclosure or during a quiet moment outside the enclosure. Do check that your ferret fits comfortably in the igloo and that the textile remains intact.

Ferrets can be playful and powerful. Therefore, pay close attention to seams, edges, and any wear and tear. Wash the igloo in time if it becomes dirty or strongly smelling.

For chinchillas and degus: only if they do not gnaw on textiles.

For which animals is the Fizi Plush Igloo suitable?

• Mouse: not suitable as a standard igloo. Mice can gnaw through textiles or carry loose fabric to the nest.
• Dwarf hamster: not suitable. Dwarf hamsters usually do not use textiles as a home and can gnaw through soft fabric or drag it to the nest.
• Hamster: not suitable. For hamsters, deep bedding, natural nesting material, sand, and sturdy hiding places make more sense than textiles.
• Gerbil: not suitable. Gerbils are real destroyers and gnawers; textiles will likely be destroyed quickly.
• Dwarf latrine: suitable as a soft shelter and sleeping place, as long as the igloo remains intact and your animal does not gnaw on it.
• Rat: suitable as a soft igloo, sleeping place, or resting spot in the enclosure. Check regularly for gnawing damage, loose threads, and fraying.

• Ferret: suitable as a soft igloo and resting place, provided the size fits well and the textile is checked regularly.

How do you use the igloo?

Place the igloo on a flat, stable surface. Preferably use it in a quiet corner of the enclosure or run, so that your animal can truly use it as a shelter and resting place. Ensure that the igloo is not placed in a wet toilet area and remove it when it becomes dirty or damp.

When are you removing the igloo?

Remove the igloo as soon as your animal chews through the textile, pulls out threads, or tries to eat pieces of fabric. The textile must remain intact for comfortable and safe use. Also, wash the igloo or replace it temporarily if it is wet, dirty, or has a strong smell.

For animals that destroy textiles, more natural and sturdier material is often a better choice. Think of wooden houses, cork tunnels, floor mats, sturdy platforms, or other materials that are better suited to gnawing behavior.

Cleaning and maintenance

The Fizi Plush Igloo can be hand washed. First, remove hair, bedding, and loose dirt. Gently hand wash the igloo and let it dry completely before putting it back.

After washing, check that the seams, edges, and fabric are still firm. Do not use the igloo if the textile has become thin, torn, or frayed.
