Kapok Nesting Material for Small Rodents!

Kapok is an animal-friendly nesting material that, thanks to its thin, easily tearable fibers, is ideal for use as nesting material for small rodents. Kapok is extra soft and warming, yet also digestible and dust-free. It complies with animal welfare requirements as defined in Section 18 (AT, Germany).

The main advantage of kapok fiber is that it is safe and non-toxic for both humans and animals. It is also hypoallergenic, meaning it is less likely to cause allergic reactions in pets.

Kapok is a legume from the large kapok tree, which can grow up to 70 meters tall. The tree's fruits are safely encased in a hard shell and nestled in a bed of very soft fibers. These fibers are particularly suitable as soft and delicate nesting material for small rodents. But kapok holds even more surprises for your rodent. Besides the soft, cottony contents that make a wonderful nest, it also contains tasty seeds that are delicious to eat.

Kapok fiber is a very soft, fine, and especially brittle fiber. Because of its appearance, these fibers are often confused with hamster cotton, but that's completely unfounded. While the two products may look similar in appearance, their texture, composition, and material are completely different and share no properties.

Kapok keeps the nest dry

Kapok fiber is a water-repellent fiber that keeps moisture out of the nest. This keeps the nest nice and dry, and humidity levels won't rise too high. This is very beneficial on hot days.

Nice and warm on cold days

Kapok fiber is wonderfully warm. When it comes to nesting material, no other material can match it for warmth. It provides excellent insulation and maintains its temperature. The animals find this very pleasant. It's interesting to know that small rodents regulate their nest temperature themselves. If it gets too warm, they remove nesting material from the nest to lower the temperature.

Instructions for use Kapok

This kapok has already been peeled and no longer contains any seeds. Simply place a small piece of kapok in the enclosure. The animals know exactly what to do with it and will take it back to their nest.

Kapok is actually only suitable for small nest-building rodents such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils. These animals also readily eat the seeds found in kapok. Kapok serves no real purpose for larger rodents.

The Animal Welfare Quality Mark

The Tierschutz-Kennzeichen (Animal Welfare Seal) is the only official seal of approval for products that comply with Austrian Animal Welfare Act. It is awarded by the Fachstelle für tiergerechte Tierhaltung und Tierschutz (FTT), an independent body established by the legislature, and guarantees compliance with animal welfare regulations.

To be certified, products must meet the requirements of the Austrian Animal Welfare Act, including its associated regulations. The assessment is based on legal requirements, current scientific findings and practical experience, comparisons with similar products, and product inspection and testing.

Each product assessed and positively evaluated by the Fachstelle receives a unique test number along with the Animal Protection Label, making it clearly identifiable. The test number consists of the year, a number for the animal category, and a serial number.
