What bedding is good for Gerbils in winter?
Gerbil bedding must always be diggable. If we look at how most rodents live in the wild, they have one thing in common. They dig tunnels and build castles underground to regulate their environmental temperature. Gerbils also do this at our home. We can help the Gerbils with this by giving them a nice warm bedding, for example cotton.
Does a Gerbil need a heat lamp?
Gerbils are desert animals and certainly don't mind heat. They don't necessarily need a heat lamp, but they do enjoy it. We have regularly observed our own Gerbils and have seen that they lie down in the sun when it shines in the enclosure. They then really lie down for it, which is very nice to see. In winter, for example, a heat lamp could be very nice for the Gerbils, but certainly not a must.
Which nesting material gives the Gerbils the most warmth during the winter?
In the wild, Gerbils make a warm nest where they sleep. They also do this at our home, but when temperatures drop (also at our home) a nice warm nest is very nice for the animals. We have selected special nesting material in this category that is wonderfully warm in winter and that the animals will visibly enjoy. Warm materials are made of kapok , cotton and soft paper fibers .
Which herbs provide Gerbils with support in winter?

Do Gerbils need extra vitamins?
Gerbils actually don't need extra vitamins in winter. For example, we only recommend this for animals that are sick, weak, pregnant or lactating. This group can always use a little extra support.
Can Gerbils Hibernate?
No Fortunately not. Gerbils do not hibernate, because they do not actually experience real winters in their natural habitat. Gerbils are desert animals, which of course does not mean that it never gets cold in the desert. The nights in the desert are quite cold. Gerbils protect themselves from this cold by digging deep tunnels.
How Do You Use a Heat Pod or Pillow for Gerbils?
A heat pod is actually made for larger rodents and rabbits, but it can also be used for Gerbils. We actually only recommend this Pod for animals that are sick, weak or recovering from surgery, for example. In all these cases, the body has insufficient energy to maintain itself at the right temperature, making an additional heat source necessary. We generally do not recommend a heat pod or cushion for Gerbils. These animals are real rodents that will quickly destroy such a product, so it should never be used without supervision.

Gerbils are primarily granivores (grain eaters), but they also need protein in their diet. Always give your Gerbils complete nutrition that is tailored to the nutritional needs of the animal.
