Product description

Trixie Wooden Nail-Free Rodent House Bent

The Trixie Wooden Rodent House Bent is a spacious wooden shelter for animals that enjoy a sheltered spot but also make use of multiple routes within their enclosure. Thanks to the two entrances and exits, the house does not feel like a dead end, which is especially pleasant for animals that like to be able to choose how they enter and exit.

When it comes to wooden houses, DRD selects not only based on size, but above all on product fit: does the passage suit the animal, is the house spacious enough, is it stable, and does it truly add something to the decor? This house is particularly suitable for rats, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and degus. The nail-free design makes it interesting for true rodents as well, while the open bottom ensures that you can easily place the house over bedding, a pee mat, or a fixed corner.

Why choose Houten Huis Bent?

A good house is more than just a place to lie down. It gives structure to the enclosure, offers shelter, and helps animals use their space in a natural way. Wooden House Bent has a smart design: an enclosed shelter area, two passageways, a sloping side, and a flat roof. This allows the house to be used in multiple ways.

For guinea pigs, it is nice if the house has two openings. Guinea pigs are prey animals and often prefer not to be in a dead-end house. With multiple guinea pigs, two passages can also help make the house more accessible. For rats, chinchillas, and degus, the combination of hiding, climbing, and exploring is particularly interesting.

The flat roof makes the house extra functional. You can use it as a low seating area, a lookout point, or a place for a sturdy food bowl. Always place the house stably and on a level surface so that it cannot tip over or sag when your animal steps on it.

Nail-free design

An important advantage of this house is the nail-free design. This is especially pleasant for animals that like to gnaw on wooden houses, such as chinchillas and degus, but rats can also investigate and modify wooden parts. With nail-free wooden houses, you don't have to worry as much about hidden nails when the house is slowly gnawed on.

Of course, that does not mean the house will last indefinitely. Wood is a consumable product in a rodent enclosure. Therefore, regularly check whether the house is still sturdy, neat, and free of sharp edges. Replace the house when it becomes too severely damaged.

Open bottom: practical and airy

The house has an open bottom. This has several advantages. You can place the house directly over the bedding, allowing your animal to shape the surface inside the house itself. For guinea pigs, you can also place the house on a pee mat or in a fixed hiding place. Furthermore, the open bottom helps keep the house airier than a completely closed wooden house.

Because the bottom is open, you can clean around and under the house more easily. Lift the house briefly every now and then to check if the area underneath remains clean, dry, and tidy.

Which size do you choose?

The Bent Wooden House is available in multiple sizes. Always choose the size based on body size, passage, group composition, and the space in the enclosure. Your animal must be able to enter comfortably, turn around, and exit without being trapped.

  • 40 cm: approx. 40 × 23 × 18 cm with openings of approx. 12 × 13 cm. Suitable for small to medium-sized animals, depending on build.
  • 51 cm: approx. 51 × 33 × 24 cm with openings of approx. 14 × 16 cm. More spacious and therefore often more practical for larger animals or animals that require more interior space.

Undecided between two sizes? In that case, usually choose the larger variant. A shelter can be comfortably spacious, as long as it still fits well in the enclosure and can be placed stably.

For which animals is Houten Huis Bent suitable?

  • Rat: suitable as a spacious wooden shelter, especially when the chosen size suits the group and body size. Rats use the house as a hiding place, stepping stone, and lookout point. Check regularly for gnawing damage and place the house securely.
  • Guinea pig: very suitable as a shelter with two doorways. It is pleasant for guinea pigs not to be in a dead-end house. For adult guinea pigs, preferably choose the larger size if the enclosure allows it.
  • Chinchilla: suitable as a wooden shelter and perch house. Chinchillas like to gnaw, so the nail-free design is a nice advantage. Do check regularly to ensure the wood remains in good condition.
  • Degu: suitable as a shelter and climbing/stabbing element. Degus are real gnawers, so check the house regularly for wear and tear. The larger size is often the most logical choice.

For rabbits, this house is only suitable if the chosen size is spacious enough for the rabbit and the animal can comfortably fit through the openings. For larger rabbits, this house quickly becomes too small as a proper hiding place. For mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, this house is usually too large as a practical home, and smaller hiding houses are often a better fit.

Use for rats

For rats, the Wooden Bent House can be a nice, low base spot in their enclosure or during their run. The house provides shelter, and the slanted side makes it attractive as part of a route. You can combine it with tunnels, hammocks, platforms, and a digging box, so that rats have multiple places to rest and explore.

For example, use the flat roof as a low step to another part of the setup. Do not place the house in a high, unstable spot, but low and sturdy. Monitoring remains important for rats, as wooden parts can be gnawed or soiled.

Use for guinea pigs

This house is particularly nice for guinea pigs because of the two openings. This allows them to move through more easily and ensures they always have a second route to the outside. This is beneficial in a group or pair, as one animal is less likely to completely block the entrance.

Place the house in a dry spot in the enclosure, for example on a pee mat, in a hiding corner, or next to the hay corner. Regularly check that the ground under the house remains clean. For young or active guinea pigs, the sloping side can also be used to walk on the roof, as long as the house is stable.

For use with chinchillas and degus

For chinchillas and degus, a wooden house is often more than just a hiding place. These animals enjoy exploring, gnawing, and utilizing different heights. Wooden House Bent can therefore serve as a shelter, a stepping stone, and part of a natural interior design.

Because chinchillas and degus are strong gnawers, it is important to inspect the enclosure regularly. The nail-free design is a major advantage in this regard, but even nail-free wood must be replaced when it is too badly damaged, develops sharp edges, or becomes unstable.

Placement and use

Always place the house low, level, and stable. The roof may be used as part of the structure, but only when the house is standing firmly. Do not use the house as a high climbing structure and do not place heavy parts on it that could shift or fall.

  • Place the house on a flat, stable surface.
  • Check if your animal fits through the openings with plenty of room.
  • Use the slanted side as a low step, not as a high climbing route.
  • Lift the house regularly to clean the area underneath.
  • Check the wood for wear, gnawing damage, and sharp edges.

  • + 2 in/uitgangen
  • + Groot
