Product description

Trixie Corn & Carrot Straw Toy 15 cm for rodents and rabbits

Trixie Corn & Carrot Straw Toys is a set of two lightweight straw toys in the shape of cheerful corn and carrots. The toys are fun to explore, move around, nibble on, and pick apart. This makes them a nice change of pace in the enclosure or during supervised playtime.

This toy is particularly suitable for animals gerbil-sized and up, such as gerbils, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus. One animal species will primarily destroy and nibble on the toy, while another will push, pick up, or move it. In this way, the same toy plays a unique role in daily enrichment for each animal.

In short

  • Set of 2 straw toys in corn and carrot shape
  • Size: approx. 15 cm
  • Made of straw
  • Fun to nibble on, destroy, move, and discover
  • Suitable for gerbils, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus

Pros of Corn & Carrot Straw Toys

Set of 2 cheerful straw toys
Lightweight material, easy to move or pick up
Fun as demolition, chewing, and play material
Provides variety during the stay
Combines nicely with play & foraging , gnawing material , and destroying toys

Why choose straw toys?

Straw toys give animals something to keep them occupied. They are lightweight, have texture, and invite exploration. Some animals carry them around, while others pull on them or slowly nibble them apart. This makes them especially fun as an alternative to hiding places, tunnels, foraging toys, and gnawing material.

For gerbils, chinchillas, and degus, this toy is particularly interesting as material for destruction and gnawing. These animals can gnaw actively and often enjoy taking natural materials apart.

For larger animals such as guinea pigs, rabbits, and rats, the toys can actually be more of an object to push, pick up, or toss back and forth. In this way, snack and play material becomes not just something to nibble on, but also something to be actively engaged with.

How do you use Corn & Carrot Straw Toys?

  • Place one or both toys on a dry spot in the enclosure or run.
  • Let your animal discover for itself whether it wants to nibble, pull, push, or move.
  • Use it as an alternative alongside other forms of enrichment.
  • Regularly check if the toys are still neat and sturdy enough.
  • Replace it when it is dirty, wet, or badly damaged.

You can also offer the toys temporarily and put them back in a different spot later. By rotating the toys, it remains more interesting and you prevent the enclosure from feeling the same all the time.

For which animals is this straw toy suitable?

  • Gerbil: suitable as destruction and gnawing material. Gerbils can actively gnaw, so check the toys regularly.
  • Rat: suitable as a playful object to explore, drag, or nibble on. Especially fun as a change of pace in the cage or play area.
  • Guinea pig: suitable as light enrichment for exploring, pushing, or nibbling. Combine with hay, tunnels, and hiding places.
  • Rabbits: suitable as a small play and nibble object. Use it as a variation alongside hay, digging opportunities, and other rabbit toys.
  • Chinchilla: suitable as light gnawing and examination material, as long as it remains dry and clean.
  • Degu: suitable as destruction and gnawing material. Degus can gnaw heavily, so check for wear.

This toy is intended as enrichment and chewing material, not as the main food. Offer it alongside an appropriate basic diet, hay where important for the species, clean drinking water, and a well-furnished enclosure.

Playing, destroying, and nibbling

Not every animal plays in the same way. That is perfectly normal. A guinea pig might mainly investigate the toy or nibble on it occasionally, while a gerbil might take it apart much faster. A rat might carry it away or move it, and a rabbit might push or lift the toy.

Therefore, view it as natural activity. The toy does not have to remain “intact” to be fun. Destroying, pulling, and nibbling can actually be part of enrichment. Do check regularly, however, to ensure that no dirty, wet, or loose pieces remain that are better removed.
