Trixie Platform with Detachable Hammock
The Trixie Platform with Hammock combines a sturdy wooden platform with a soft, detachable hammock. This makes the product especially convenient for animals that like to lie sheltered, chill low, or appreciate a soft resting spot, without you having to hang a hammock from the bars yourself.
When it comes to hammocks and platforms, DRD focuses primarily on practical use: is the size suitable for the animal, is the hammock low enough, does the whole setup remain stable, and is the material suitable for your animal's behavior? This platform is available in two sizes and is particularly interesting for rats, guinea pigs, ferrets, and, depending on size and use, also for chinchillas, degus, and small rabbits. When making your choice, always look for the green "suitable for" logos in the product images, and also consider body size, gnawing behavior, and the space available in the enclosure.

Why choose a platform with a hammock?
A separate hammock is nice, but not every enclosure has convenient bars, suspension points, or a logical place to securely attach a hammock. This platform solves that problem: the hammock is already suspended in a wooden frame and can be used close to the ground. This makes the product interesting for animals that enjoy lying on something soft but aren't real high climbers.
This concept is especially fun for guinea pigs. While guinea pigs usually don't use hammocks like rats do, a low, soft hammock in a sturdy frame can actually be very inviting. They can step into it, lie in it, or use the platform as a sheltered resting place. For rats, the platform with the hammock can be a nice extra sleeping spot during run-out or in a spacious cage. For ferrets, it is a nice, soft resting place, provided the size is a good fit.
The wooden platform itself also has a function. Your pet can sit on it, walk across it, or use it as a low step. Always place the entire structure stably and do not use it as a high climbing structure. The strength of this product lies precisely in the combination of being low, soft, and practical.
Which size do you choose?
The Hammock Platform is available in two sizes. Choose the size based on your pet, the available space, and how you intend to use the product. The green 'suitable for' logos on the product images provide a practical initial guideline, but always check for yourself whether your pet fits comfortably and relaxed in the hammock.
- 28 cm: approx. 28 × 28 × 24 cm. Suitable for smaller animals or as a compact resting place in an enclosure or run.
- 37 cm: approx. 37 × 37 × 29 cm. More spacious and therefore more practical for larger animals or animals that need more lying space.
The hammock of the smaller variant is approximately 20 cm. The hammock of the larger variant is approximately 27 cm. For larger animals, the largest size is usually the most logical choice. For large rabbits, even the large hammock is usually too small to serve as a true hammock; they may potentially use the platform as a low resting or stepping spot, provided the product is spaced far enough apart and is stable enough.
For which animals is the Platform with Hammock suitable?
- Rat: suitable as a soft resting place, especially in a spacious rat cage or during run time. Rats like to lie on something soft and can use the hammock as a sleeping or chill spot. However, check regularly for gnawing damage and soiling.
- Guinea pig: suitable as a low hammock/resting place, especially in the larger size. Many guinea pigs find a low, soft place to lie down pleasant, especially when they can easily get in and out of it.
- Chinchilla: suitable if the chinchilla handles the hammock carefully and does not chew on the fabric. Check the fabric, seams, and wooden frame regularly.
- Degu: only suitable if the degu does not gnaw on the hammock. Degus are strong gnawers and can quickly damage fabric. Therefore, use this product responsibly and under supervision.
- Ferret: suitable as a soft resting or lying spot, especially in the larger size. Do check that the ferret fits comfortably and that the hammock remains intact.
- Small rabbit: may be suitable as a low resting place or platform, depending on size and use. For larger rabbits, the hammock is usually too small.
This product is usually less suitable for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils. The size and function do not align well with their use of the enclosure. For these animals, smaller houses, tunnels, platforms, sandboxes, or natural landscaping materials are often more logical.
Use for guinea pigs
For guinea pigs, this platform with a hammock is especially fun because the hammock hangs low in a frame. You don't need to attach anything to bars, and your guinea pig can quietly explore for itself whether it wants to step in. Some guinea pigs enjoy using the hammock as a soft resting spot, while others need a little time to get used to the feeling of fabric under their paws.
Place the platform on a flat, dry spot in the enclosure or in a safe run-out area. Preferably do not place it directly in a toilet area or under a hay rack where a lot of hay and dirt falls on it. Check regularly that the hammock remains clean and dry.
Use for rats
Rats are true hammock lovers. This platform is handy when you want to create a low, soft resting spot without having to hang a hammock from the bars. You can place the platform in a spacious cage, but also use it during run time or as part of a play corner.
For rats, it is important to check the hammock regularly. Fabric parts can become dirty or be gnawed on. Therefore, use the product as comfortable enrichment, but replace or wash parts when necessary.
For use with chinchillas and degus
For chinchillas and degus, a platform with a hammock can be interesting, but only if the animal leaves the fabric alone. Both species can be strong gnawers, and degus in particular can quickly damage fabric materials. Therefore, observe your animal's behavior closely and check the hammock regularly.
When using this product with these animals, primarily use it in a location where you can easily check that everything remains intact. If your animal starts gnawing on the hammock, seams, or attachment, remove the hammock and, if necessary, use the wooden frame only as a platform, provided it is safe and stable to do so.
For use with ferrets and small rabbits
For ferrets, the Tray with Hammock can be a nice, soft resting place. Ferrets often love soft places to snuggle into. For ferrets, preferably choose the larger size and check that the hammock is sturdy and spacious enough for your pet.
For small rabbits, the product can be used as a low resting place or platform, depending on size and build. The hammock itself is quickly on the small side for many rabbits. Therefore, we do not recommend this product as a hammock for larger rabbits; instead, choose a spacious cushion, basket, tunnel, or larger resting platform.
Placement and use
Place the platform on a flat, dry, and stable surface. Check that the frame is sturdy and does not wobble when your animal steps into it or leans on it. Use the product low to the ground and not as a high climbing structure.
- Choose a quiet, dry spot in the enclosure or during the run.
- Check if your animal can easily get in and out of the hammock.
- Adjust the hammock to a comfortable, low height.
- Regularly check whether the fabric, seams, and fastenings are still neat.
- Remove the hammock if your pet chews on it or if the fabric becomes damaged.
- Continue using the wooden tray only if it remains stable, intact, and safe.
