Product description

Trixie Wooden Platform 30 & 45 cm for rodents and rabbits

The Trixie Wooden Platform is a natural platform made of bark wood that allows you to create extra structure, height, and shelter in the enclosure. You can use the platform as a raised spot, hiding place, feeding area, step, or stable base for, for example, a food bowl, water bowl, sand bath, or decoration.

The platform is available in two variants: 30 cm and 45 cm. This allows you to choose what best suits your animal and the enclosure. For small rodents, a platform is particularly useful as a stable place above the bedding. For guinea pigs and rabbits, the platform is especially pleasant as a low hiding or resting place, depending on the size chosen and the size of your animal.

Why choose a wooden tray?

A platform immediately makes an enclosure more practical. For animals that dig frequently, such as hamsters and gerbils, the bedding remains constantly shifting. A platform provides a stable place for items you prefer not to sink into the digging layer, such as a food bowl, water bowl, sand bath, or exercise wheel.

For mice, rats, and pygmy rats, a platform can become part of a route through the enclosure. They enjoy using different levels, steps, and sheltered spots. The platform can then serve as a resting point, an intermediate level, or part of a route with ladders, tunnels, and hanging spots.

For guinea pigs and rabbits, use the platform primarily low and stable. The platform can then provide a nice sheltered spot to sit under, or, in the case of the larger variant, serve as a low resting place. Especially for guinea pigs, a platform can help create more sheltered zones in the enclosure.

Which size do you choose?

  • 30 cm: suitable for small rodents such as mice, hamsters, dwarf hamsters, and gerbils. Also handy as a feeding spot or a stable platform in a scape.
  • 45 cm: suitable when you want more space, for example for rats, pygmy rats, guinea pigs, or rabbits. This size provides more hiding space under the platform and more room on top.

For guinea pigs and rabbits, the 45 cm variant is usually the most logical choice when the platform is truly used as a hiding or resting place. The smaller 30 cm variant can be handy for guinea pigs and rabbits to place treats, herbs, or a food bowl on, but is less intended as a sitting platform.

How do you use the platform in the enclosure?

  • Gently and firmly tighten the legs before placing the platform in the enclosure.
  • Place the platform on a flat, stable surface.
  • For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, use it low, just above the bedding.
  • Use it for mice, pygmy rats, and rats as a waypoint, resting place, or extra layer.
  • For guinea pigs and rabbits, use it primarily low down as a hiding place, resting spot, or food/snack platform.

After installation, always check that the platform stands firmly and does not wobble. Only place heavy bowls or accessories on the platform when it is stable. For animals that like to dig or push against their paws, it is advisable to re-check the platform regularly.

For which animals is the Trixie Wooden Platform suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a platform, waypoint, and sheltered spot. Combine with ladders, tunnels, or other structures for safe routes.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a low platform for a food bowl, water bowl, sand bath, or decoration. Place the platform just above the bedding.
  • Hamster: suitable as a stable spot in the enclosure, for example for food, water, sand, or a running wheel. Place the platform low and easily accessible.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a platform for sand, food, or decoration. Gerbils can gnaw and dig vigorously, so check regularly to ensure the platform remains clean.
  • Dwarf ridge: suitable as a resting place, intermediate layer, or waypoint. Choose the size that suits your animal and the interior.
  • Rat: suitable as an extra platform or resting place in the rat cage. For multiple rats together, the largest size makes the most sense.
  • Guinea pig: suitable as a low hiding place or sheltered spot to sit under. The largest size can also be used as a low resting place.
  • Rabbit: suitable as a low elevation or sheltered spot, especially in the largest size and when the size suits your rabbit.
  • Chinchilla: only use with regular checks for gnawing and wear, as the platform is not nail-free.
  • Degu: only use with regular checks for gnawing and wear, as degus can gnaw intensively and the platform is not nail-free.

Always use the platform in a way that suits the animal species. For hamsters, guinea pigs, and rabbits, being low and stable is most important. For mice and rats, the platform can be more of a route. For chinchillas and degus, extra supervision is important because they are strong gnawers.

Resin-free wood and bark wood for rodents and rabbits

The tray is made of bark wood. This material has a natural and rustic character. Because wood and bark are natural materials, the texture may vary slightly from tray to tray. Some bark may also come loose in places. This is characteristic of this type of material and fits the natural appearance of the product.

The bark wood used contains fewer resin canals and undergoes a careful drying process. During this process, moisture is gradually removed from the wood. This creates a natural wooden platform that fits beautifully in a rodent or rabbit enclosure.

Animal welfare seal of approval for Trixie Wooden Plateau

Animal welfare label

This wooden tray bears the Tierschutz-Kennzeichen. This seal is awarded to products that have been positively assessed according to Austrian animal welfare regulations. The assessment takes into account legal requirements, current insights, practical experience, and product tests, among other factors.

For you as the owner, this provides extra guidance when choosing a product for the enclosure. Additionally, always ensure proper use, stable placement, and regular checks for wear and tear.

Cleaning and maintenance

  • Regularly remove loose bedding, food remnants, and sand from and under the platform.
  • Clean the wood locally when it has become dirty or damp.
  • Let the tray dry thoroughly before using it again.
  • Check the legs regularly for sturdiness.
  • Replace the platform if it is damaged or no longer stable.

Only place water bowls on the plateau when it is stable and easily accessible. If the plateau often gets wet, it is better to adjust the layout so that the wood stays neat for longer.

Good to know

  • Check that the platform stands firmly before use.
  • Tighten the legs, but do not force the screw connection.
  • Use the platform for hamsters and dwarf hamsters low, just above the bedding.
  • Check regularly for gnaw marks, loose bark, sharp edges, or wear.
  • The platform is not nail-free; check extra carefully with strong gnawers such as chinchillas and degus.
