Product description

Wooden Corner Platform with Ladders 39 cm for Rodents

The Wooden Corner Platform with Ladders 39 cm is a practical platform that allows you to make smart use of a corner of the enclosure. Thanks to the corner shape, you create extra surface area without the platform being positioned in the middle of the enclosure. This is handy for a food bowl, water bowl, exercise wheel, snack area, or small resting spot.

A platform is particularly useful in enclosures with deep bedding. Bowls and accessories remain more stable and are less likely to disappear into the bedding. The steps help your animal reach the platform, but you can also combine the access with a willow bridge, cork bridge, or other low route if that suits your setup better.

Why choose a wooden corner shelf?

A corner platform is particularly useful when you want to create more usable surface area without unnecessarily filling the enclosure. Thanks to the corner shape, the platform fits nicely against two sides of the enclosure. As a result, more open space remains for walking and digging.

At DRD, when it comes to platforms, we focus primarily on their function within the enclosure. This platform is not a high climbing structure, but a practical extra surface. You use it, for example, to place a food bowl stably, position a water bowl more neatly, or keep a running wheel more stable above a deep layer of bedding.

Handy for deep bedding

In a naturally designed enclosure, a thick layer of bedding is often used. This is beneficial for digging behavior, but less convenient for trays and accessories. A platform then creates a flat, dry, and organized area.

You can place the corner platform stably and build up the bedding around it. This way, the platform blends more naturally into the decor, and the top remains usable as a grooming area.

For feed bowl, water bowl, or exercise wheel

Thanks to the spacious surface area, you can use this corner platform in various ways. A food bowl remains more visible and cleaner, a water bowl stands more stably, and a running wheel can stand straighter than when placed directly on loose bedding.

When using a running wheel, always check that the enclosure is high enough. The platform, the wheel, and the clearance above must fit together properly. The wheel must stand stably and be able to rotate freely.

For which animals is the Corner Platform with Ladders suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as an extra route, feeding spot, or raised surface in a mouse enclosure. Mice enjoy using different levels, as long as the placement remains safe and stable.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a practical corner platform for a food bowl, water bowl, or exercise wheel. Place the platform low to prevent high points of impact.
  • Hamster: suitable as a spacious platform in a hamsterscape. Especially useful for placing bowls or a running wheel stably on top of deep bedding.
  • Gerbil: limited suitability. Gerbils are true gnawers and can quickly work wood. Use the platform only when you carefully check for gnawing damage and stability.
  • Dwarf rat: suitable as a low extra platform, resting place, or step, depending on the size of your dwarf rats and the setup of the enclosure.
  • Rat: suitable as an extra platform or practical corner spot in a rat enclosure. Additionally, for larger groups of rats and tall cages, securely attached rat platforms are often more logical.
  • Guinea pig: not suitable as a platform. Guinea pigs are not climbers and primarily need low, spacious furnishings and sufficient floor space.
  • Rabbit: not suitable. This platform is too small for rabbits and not suitable as a raised platform.
  • Chinchilla: not suitable as a main platform. Chinchillas need larger, securely attached jumping platforms that suit their way of moving.
  • Degu: not the first choice. Degus gnaw intensively and require sturdy platforms that are better suited to their strong gnawing behavior.

How do you use the platform safely?

Place the platform stably in a corner of the enclosure. Check that it does not wobble and that the legs are stable. For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, preferably place it low down to avoid creating high points of failure. Hamsters enjoy using routes and elevated areas, but are not true height climbers.

For small animals, you can use the steps as an entrance. If you find the steps too steep or they don't fit as nicely with your decor, you can also place a low willow bridge, cork bridge, or other safe route against the platform. This makes access easier and more natural.

Usage Practical tip
Feeding spot Place a food bowl on the platform so that food is less likely to disappear into the bedding.
Water trough area Use the platform for a water bowl when it stands firmly, level, and low enough.
Treadmill Only place a wheel on the platform if it is stable and the enclosure is high enough.
Hamsterscaping Work up the ground cover around the plateau so that it blends naturally into the design.
Rat enclosure Use as a low extra surface, resting place, or stepping stone within a wider route.

Beautiful for hamsterscaping and natural decor

In a natural setup, you can use the corner platform as a quiet grooming zone. The deep bedding remains available for digging and nesting, while the platform provides a flat surface for items that need to stand firmly.

Combine the platform with cork, willow bridges, tunnels, bedding, and natural materials. This way, the platform does not become a standalone piece of furniture, but a logical part of the route through the enclosure.

Assembly and stability

This shelf may require assembly. When assembling, check that the legs are securely attached and that the shelf is level. Tighten fasteners well, but do not force the wood.

After assembly, also check the edges, legs, and steps. Carefully sand any rough spots smooth before placing the platform in the enclosure. This ensures it is presented neatly and safely.

Cleaning and maintenance

Clean the platform with a dry brush or a slightly damp cloth. Let the wood dry thoroughly before replacing it. Because wood can absorb moisture, it is advisable to remove urine stains or wet food residue quickly.

Regularly check for gnawing damage, loose parts, protruding components, splinters, and wear. Remove the platform when it becomes unstable, develops sharp edges, or is no longer easy to keep clean.

Material and specifications

Material: wood.

Dimensions: approx. 39.5 × 23 × 13 cm.

Good to know

Use this platform primarily as a practical extra surface. For small rodents, low and stable placement is important. For rats, it can serve as an extra resting or stepping spot. This platform is not the most suitable choice for guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus.

For true gnawers like gerbils, extra monitoring is necessary. If the platform is quickly gnawed on or sharp parts develop, replace it in time.

  • - Splinters

Degelijk materiaal, maatvoering klopt.
