Degoe Running Wheels & Running Discs – gnaw-resistant aluminum, safe and quiet

Degoe running wheels & running discs – gnaw-proof aluminum, safe running and extra challenge
Degus are active rodents who love to keep busy. A degu exercise wheel or exercise disk isn't a replacement for a spacious, challenging enclosure, but it can be a great addition for extra exercise and mental enrichment. Because degus love to gnaw, the choice of material is important: preferably choose a gnaw-proof aluminum wheel with a solid track and a smooth, quiet turning mechanism. As specialists in rodents and rabbits since 2011, we select exercise wheels that are easy to maintain and pleasant to use. Always combine an exercise wheel with plenty of activities, such as degu gnawing materials and degu play & foraging .
Ideal for degus: a closed runway, sturdy material, and easy to clean. Less chance of gnawing.

Natural look and fun as an enrichment, but less "gnaw-proof." Suitable if your degus handle it well.

Why an exercise wheel or running disk for degus?
Degus love to exercise, but a long sprint line isn't always possible in an enclosure. A good exercise wheel or running disc can therefore provide additional activity, especially when combined with foraging and climbing. Important: consider it a supplement to a well-equipped enclosure with features like tunnels , houses , and a deep digging layer using ground cover .
What should you pay attention to with degu exercise wheels?
For degus, you'll want a solid running surface (pleasant and safe running), a stable mounting/position , and preferably a gnaw-resistant material . Aluminum is often the best choice: strong, durable, and easy to clean. Always choose a size that suits the degu's body type and ensure the wheel rotates smoothly without wobbling.
Running wheel or running disk: which is right for your degus?
A running wheel offers the most classic "running in a wheel" experience. A running disc is low and can be a nice entry point for some animals. Which one is better depends on your setup and your animals. In either case, make sure it's sturdy, provide plenty of space, and check it regularly for wear and tear. Do you have real rodents? Then gnaw-proof aluminum is usually the most worry-free option.
Checklist
✔ For degus, preferably choose a gnaw-proof aluminum running wheel or a sturdy metal running disk.
✔ Ensure a tight track and stable placement (do not wobble).
✔ Leave enough space around the enclosure so that animals cannot get trapped.
✔ Combine with safe gnawing material: gnawing material .
Maintenance
✔ Clean with a slightly damp cloth; do not soak the rotating mechanism (bearing) through.
✔ Remove visible dirt daily and wipe it down weekly for a fresh carpet.
✔ Check regularly that the wheel continues to turn smoothly and is stable.
FAQ
Why is aluminum better for degus?
Degus love to gnaw. Aluminum is gnaw-resistant, durable, and easy to clean, reducing the risk of damage or wear.
Can I rinse a running wheel under the tap?
Preferably not. Wiping it with a cloth is fine, but the rotating mechanism (bearing) stays in top condition if you don't get it completely wet.
Is an exercise wheel enough exercise?
Think of it as a bonus. Degus especially benefit from a well-equipped enclosure with climbing, foraging, tunnels, and gnawing material.
