Product description

Wooden Platform with Ladders 28 cm for Small Rodents

The Wooden Platform with Ladders 28 cm is a practical raised platform for small rodents. You can use it as an extra surface in the enclosure, for example for a food bowl, water bowl, snack area, or small resting spot. A platform is especially useful in enclosures with a deep layer of bedding, as bowls stand more stably and are less likely to be dug under.

The stairs allow animals to easily walk upstairs. This makes the platform not only functional but also a nice addition to the decor. In a hamsterscape, mouse enclosure, or natural rodent setup, you can use the platform as a small route, feeding spot, or raised corner without immediately losing a lot of extra floor space.

Why choose a wooden platform with stairs?

A platform makes the enclosure more practical and gives your animal an extra place to use. Especially for hamsters, dwarf hamsters, and mice, a raised platform can be handy for food bowls, water bowls, or small sniffing spots. This keeps daily care more organized and prevents everything from immediately disappearing into the bedding.

At DRD, we focus primarily on the function of platforms within the enclosure. This platform is not intended as a high climbing structure, but rather as a low and practical extra surface. Therefore, you use it mainly to add structure: a quiet feeding spot above the bedding, a small route within the setup, or a visible corner in a natural scape.

Handy for deep bedding

In an enclosure with deep bedding, food and water bowls can easily become tilted. A platform helps create a more stable surface. You can place the platform on a sturdy spot and build up the bedding around it so that it blends neatly into the setup.

This is especially handy for hamsterscaping. The platform can serve as a “dry” or easily visible grooming area, while the rest of the enclosure remains deep and naturally furnished. This way, you combine practical maintenance with an animal-friendly setup.

For which animals is the Wooden Platform with Ladders suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as an extra platform, feeding spot, or route in a mouse enclosure. Mice enjoy using different levels, provided the height remains safe.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a low platform for a food bowl, water bowl, or small sniffing area. Place the platform stably and avoid high points of impact.
  • Hamster: suitable as a practical platform in a hamsterscape or hamster enclosure. Especially useful for placing bowls stably on top of a deep layer of bedding.
  • Gerbil: limited suitability. Gerbils are true gnawers and can extensively work on wood. Use it only if you carefully check for gnawing damage and the platform remains stable.
  • Dwarf rat: suitable as a small platform or step, depending on size and group use. Dwarf rats can vary among themselves, so carefully consider the actual size of your animals.
  • Rat: suitable for smaller rats or as a small extra platform in a rat enclosure. For larger groups of rats, a more spacious and sturdier platform is usually more logical.
  • Guinea pig: not suitable as a platform. Guinea pigs are not climbers and primarily need low, spacious hiding places and floor space.
  • Rabbit: not suitable. This platform is too small for rabbits and not suitable as a raised platform.
  • Chinchilla: not suitable as a main platform. Chinchillas need larger, sturdy jumping platforms that suit their way of moving.
  • Degu: not the first choice. Degus gnaw intensively and require sturdy platforms that are better suited to their strong gnawing behavior.

How do you use the tray?

Place the platform low and stable in the enclosure. Ensure that the legs are firm and that the platform cannot tip over. Do not use it in a high or wobbly place, especially not with hamsters and dwarf hamsters. These animals like to use routes, but are not height climbers.

Usage Practical tip
Feeding spot Place a food bowl on the platform so that food is less likely to disappear into the bedding.
Water trough area Use the platform for a small water bowl, provided it stands firmly and level.
Hamsterscaping Work up the ground cover around the plateau so that it blends naturally into the design.
Sniffing spot Place a small amount of herbs, flowers, or food on the tray for a quiet foraging moment.

Placement in a hamsterscape or mouse enclosure

In a natural setup, you can beautifully incorporate the platform by building up the bedding around the legs. The platform then remains usable as a flat surface, whereas it does not sit as a separate object on top of the bedding. This looks more natural and makes it more stable to use.

For mice, the platform can also serve as an additional route. Combine it, for example, with cork, branches, tunnels, or other low routes. Always ensure that the fall height remains limited and that the animals can easily get on and off.

Cleaning and maintenance

Clean the platform with a dry brush or a slightly damp cloth. Allow the wood to dry thoroughly before replacing it. Because wood can absorb moisture, it is advisable to remove urine stains or wet food residue quickly.

Regularly inspect the platform for gnawing damage, loose parts, splinters, and wear. Remove the platform when it becomes unstable, develops sharp edges, or can no longer be properly cleaned.

Material and specifications

Material: untreated bare wood.

Dimensions: approx. 28 × 18 × 16 cm.

Use: plateau, feeding area, water bowl area, steps, small route and extra surface.

Special features: suitable for use in an enclosure with bedding; check regularly for wear.

Good to know

Use this platform primarily low and practical. It can be a nice addition for small rodents, but it should not become a high climbing structure. Ensure that your animal can safely get on and off and that no high points of failure are created.

For real gnawers like gerbils and degus, extra monitoring is important. If the wood is being gnawed too heavily or sharp parts appear, replace the platform in time.

Mooi plateau past perfect in mijn kooi. Ik heb echter 2 minpunten. 1.
