Product description

Trixie Cork Mix for Hamsterscaping and Gerbilscaping

The Trixie Cork Mix consists of natural cork pieces in various shapes and sizes. You can use the pieces to add more structure, shelter, and natural variety to the enclosure. This makes this mix ideal for hamsterscaping, gerbilscaping, and natural decor for small rodents.

Cork is lightweight, natural, and has a rough texture. Small animals can walk over it, scurry along it, shelter underneath it, or use it as a natural divider between different parts of the enclosure. Because every piece of cork is different, the interior immediately takes on a playful and natural effect.

Advantages of the Trixie Cork Mix

100% natural: made of cork, a light and natural material for furnishing.
Ideal for scaping: perfect for hamster scaping, gerbil scaping, and natural enclosures.
Various shapes: each mix contains multiple cork pieces with a natural look.
Extra structure: animals can walk over it, sniff at it, and forage along it.
Also as shelter: small animals can hide under or between larger pieces of cork.

Why choose cork for the enclosure?

Cork is a great material for making an enclosure more natural and interesting. A flat layout can quickly become cluttered, but also somewhat predictable. With pieces of cork, you create small variations in height, edges, passageways, and sheltered corners. This gives your animal more to discover.

This is valuable for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, because these animals enjoy exploring their surroundings. They do not just walk from A to B, but seek out routes, hiding places, and structures they can move through. A few loose pieces of cork can already do a lot for the experience in the enclosure.

Cork can also be used as a natural furnishing element for degus. However, keep in mind that degus are strong gnawers. Therefore, check regularly to ensure that the cork pieces remain neat and safe.

For which animals is the Cork Mix suitable?

  • Mouse: very suitable as a natural hiding, climbing, and route element. Mice like to use small structures in their enclosure.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as hamsterscaping material, for example around a sand bath, house, or digging zone.
  • Hamster: suitable as a decorative and functional landscaping element. Use the pieces especially low and stable.
  • Gerbil: suitable for gerbilscaping and natural decor. Gerbils can dig and gnaw, so place the pieces carefully and check regularly.
  • Degu: suitable as a natural furnishing element, provided it is regularly checked for gnawing damage and loose pieces.

How do you use the Trixie Cork Mix?

  • Place a few pieces of cork on or partially in the bedding.
  • Use larger pieces as a sheltered spot or natural barrier.
  • Use smaller pieces as decoration, walking structure, or extra texture in the enclosure.
  • Combine cork with moss, sand, tunnels, grapevines, or natural ground cover.
  • Position the pieces so that they cannot tilt or jam the legs.
  • Regularly check whether the cork pieces are still clean, firm, and safe.

You can beautifully combine the cork pieces with hamsterscaping , gerbilscaping , natural decor , cork products , and moss .

Use for hamsterscaping

In a hamsterscape, you can use the cork pieces to make the layout more natural and less open. For example, place a few pieces along a sand bath, around a house, or between different bedding materials. This creates small routes and sheltered corners for your hamster to move through.

When using cork for hamsters, keep it low and stable. Hamsters can climb, but they are not true high-altitude animals. A piece of cork as a low route or natural ledge is therefore often much more logical than a high climbing structure.

Use for gerbilscaping

Cork is interesting for gerbils because it adds structure to a digging and exploration enclosure. You can partially incorporate the pieces into the bedding or use them as a natural transition between the digging zone, sand bath, and tunnels.

Because gerbils dig a lot, loose furnishings can shift over time. Therefore, regularly check that the cork pieces are still firmly in place and have not shifted in a way that could trap an animal.

Cork as a natural partition

Cork pieces are handy for creating small zones. Think of a separation between sand and ground cover, a border around a plant or moss corner, or a natural transition to a tunnel. Due to the irregular shape, the separation looks less rigid and fits beautifully with a natural interior design.

Always neatly fill in open gaps. If a narrow gap forms between pieces of cork where a leg could get stuck, fill it with substrate, moss, or other suitable aquascaping material.

Why is every Cork Mix different?

Cork is a natural product. The pieces may vary in shape, thickness, color, texture, and curvature. One mix may contain somewhat larger pieces, while another has more small or flatter pieces. This is characteristic of the product and makes every interior slightly different.

The size of the pieces is approximately between 5 and 15 cm. Use the larger pieces for shelter or partitioning, and the smaller pieces for texture, decoration, and natural details.

Cleaning and maintenance

Preferably clean cork dry. Shake off loose bedding, sand, or dust, and use a small brush or dry cloth if necessary. If a spot has become dirty locally, gently use a slightly damp cloth and let it dry completely before putting it back.

If the cork becomes wet, heavily soiled, or brittle, remove it from the enclosure. Also, check regularly for sharp edges, loose pieces, and gnawing damage.
