Why a multi-room house for small rodents?

Small rodents like mice and dwarf hamsters like to store food near their nests. In the wild, these animals live in burrows and have a dedicated chamber for storing food, called a larder. Multi-chambered houses therefore mimic the animals' natural habitat and allow them to use multiple chambers.

For group animals (mice), multi-room houses offer an added advantage: the ability to avoid each other in case of disagreements or conflict. Although group animals enjoy being together, disagreements can occasionally arise, making them less comfortable with each other's presence. For these moments, multiple rooms are ideal, allowing the animals to retreat to their own room.
