Bunny Nature CaviaDroom BASIC is a complete guinea pig food for adult guinea pigs. This food has a broad plant base of 63 plants and herbs from permanent grassland, combined with a 3-fiber mix and stabilized vitamin C. This makes BASIC a fine daily basis for guinea pigs who like to nibble, eat calmly, and benefit from a clear food structure.
At DRD, when it comes to guinea pig food, we focus primarily on fiber, vitamin C, texture, eating behavior, and how easy it is to incorporate into the daily routine. CaviaDroom BASIC fits well alongside unlimited hay, daily vegetables, and clean drinking water. You can offer it in the food bowl, or scatter a small amount to encourage natural foraging.
✔ Complete guinea pig food for the daily basis
✔ With 63 plants and herbs from permanent grassland
✔ With stabilized vitamin C, important for guinea pigs
✔ 3-fiber mix with different fiber lengths
✔ Crude fiber 21%, suitable for a high-fiber guinea pig food
✔ Also suitable for scattering partially for natural foraging
Guinea pigs like to eat throughout the day. They nibble a lot, need fiber daily, and cannot produce vitamin C themselves. CaviaDroom BASIC aligns well with this, featuring a fiber-rich plant base, stabilized vitamin C, and a texture that encourages leisurely eating.
The 3-fiber mix is an important part of this food. By combining fibers of different lengths, your guinea pig gets more structure in the food bowl. This makes the mealtime more natural and provides more gnawing opportunities than a smooth, simple pellet.
BASIC is the calm base within the CaviaDroom line. You can use this variant daily and optionally alternate it with other CaviaDroom variants, such as Flowers, when you want to offer more scent and flavor variety within the same trusted food base.
This food is intended for guinea pigs. For mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, gerbils, dwarf rats, rats, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, you should preferably choose food specifically formulated for those species.
Bunny Nature states that CaviaDroom BASIC can be offered freely. In practice, however, many owners find it helpful to follow a guideline in addition, so that they can easily keep track of appetite, condition, and how much is actually being eaten.
A practical guideline for adult guinea pigs is approximately 25–40 grams per guinea pig per day, depending on size, activity, condition, and how much hay and vegetables are eaten. Hay always remains the most important part of the guinea pig diet.
| Usage | How to offer it? | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| In the food bowl | Give a measured portion or only refill when the container is completely empty. | This is how you keep track of appetite and leftovers. |
| As a foraging moment | Scatter a small amount around on a clean, dry spot or use a foraging mat. | This way, you turn the eating moment into a search moment as well. |
Use the guideline as a practical starting point. Then take a close look at body condition, activity, hay intake, and what, if anything, is left uneaten.
| Guinea pig weight | Daily portion BASIC per guinea pig | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| ± 700–900 g | approx. 20–30 grams per day | Pay close attention to growth, condition, and hay intake. |
| ± 900–1200 g | approx. 25–40 grams per day | For many adult guinea pigs, this is a practical middle range. |
| from ± 1200 g | approx. 30–45 grams per day | Adjust to activity, physique, and fitness level. |
Guinea pigs are social animals and should be kept with other guinea pigs. Therefore, we calculate below based on 2 guinea pigs. The duration of use depends on size, activity, condition, hay intake, and how much is left behind or spilled.
| Packaging | At 25 g per guinea pig per day | At 40 g per guinea pig per day |
|---|---|---|
| 600 grams | approx. 12 days for 2 guinea pigs | approx. 8 days for 2 guinea pigs |
| 1.5 kg | approx. 30 days for 2 guinea pigs | approx. 19 days for 2 guinea pigs |
| 4 kg | approx. 80 days for 2 guinea pigs | approx. 50 days for 2 guinea pigs |
Calculation aid: volume in grams ÷ total daily portion for 2 guinea pigs = number of days. For more than 2 guinea pigs, add up the daily consumption of all animals.
