Product description

Trixie Mouse and Hamster Run ø 90 × 25 cm

The Trixie Mouse and Hamster Playpen is a handy foldable playpen for extra supervised play space. You can use the playpen, for example, when your hamster is allowed to safely roam outside the enclosure for a moment, when you are cleaning the enclosure, or when you want to create a temporary play and exploration corner.

Thanks to the small bar spacing of approximately 1 cm, this run is particularly suitable for dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and as a small playpen for guinea pigs. The run has a diameter of approximately 90 cm and is about 25 cm high. This makes it easy to set up and store away, but supervision remains important. Hamsters can climb, guinea pigs need more space for longer periods of running out, and some small rodents are true escape artists.

In short

  • Foldable playpen for extra play space
  • Dimensions: approx. ø 90 × 25 cm
  • Bar spacing: approximately 1 cm
  • Suitable for dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and as a small playpen for guinea pigs.
  • Use only under supervision

Pros of the Trixie Hamster Run

Extra play space: handy when your pet is temporarily allowed to explore outside the enclosure.
Small bar spacing: at approximately 1 cm, suitable for many dwarf hamsters and hamsters.
Foldable: easy to set up and store compactly after use.
Great during cleaning: handy as a temporary spot while you change the enclosure.
Creative customization: add a little house, tunnel, snack plate, or foraging item for more relaxation and challenge.

Why choose a run?

A run gives your animal temporary extra space to move, sniff, and explore. This can be great fun, especially when you furnish the run calmly with familiar materials from the enclosure. Think of a small hiding house, a tunnel, a little bit of bedding, some hay, or a foraging toy.

A run is not a substitute for a spacious main enclosure. View it primarily as an extra opportunity to run around, a temporary play area, or a safe place while cleaning. This ensures the basic housing remains sound, while allowing your animal to explore a different environment occasionally.

Because rodents are prey animals, an open run can be daunting at first. An empty open space does not immediately feel safe to many animals. By adding at least one hiding place, you give your animal the opportunity to retreat. This often makes using the run calmer and more pleasant.

For which animals is this run suitable?

  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a temporary playpen under supervision. Always add a hiding place and check that your dwarf hamster does not try to climb.
  • Hamster: suitable as a temporary run or a place during cleaning. Close supervision is important for active hamsters, as they can climb.
  • Guinea pig: usable as a small temporary playpen, but for a proper guinea pig run, a more spacious guinea pig or rabbit run is usually better.
  • Mouse: not the first choice. Mice are excellent climbers and may quickly try to get out of the run.
  • Gerbil: not the first choice. Gerbils are active, like to dig, and may try to climb or escape.
  • Rats and pygmy rats: not suitable as a main enclosure. Rats climb easily and need a higher, sturdier play environment.
  • Rabbit: too small as a practical run. For rabbits, it is better to choose a spacious rabbit run.
  • Chinchilla and degu: not suitable. These animals are fast, powerful, and require a different form of safe outdoor enclosure.

How do you use the Trixie Mouse and Hamster Run?

  • Place the run on a flat, safe surface.
  • Use the run only under supervision.
  • Place at least one shelter in the run.
  • Do not place houses, tunnels, or platforms directly against the edge, as your pet may use them as steps.
  • If necessary, place a cloth, tarpaulin, or washable mat under the run to protect the floor.
  • Always check that your animal is not trying to climb, jump, or get under the run.

For a good start, you can calmly set up the run with a small house , a tunnel , someplay and foraging materials , and possibly a small amount of familiar bedding from the enclosure.

Do you need to fill the pen with toys?

The enclosure doesn't have to be full, but being completely empty is less pleasant for many animals. An open space without shelter can feel unsafe. Therefore, always start with at least one hiding place. After that, you can take your time to see what your animal prefers.

For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, consider a small house, tunnel, a safely positioned exercise wheel, a treat dish, or some foraging material. For guinea pigs, a house or tunnel is important, possibly supplemented with some hay or a small snack. Keep things organized so your animal can move around freely and you can clearly see what is happening.

Why supervision is important

This run is 25 cm high. This makes it convenient and compact, but also low enough for some animals to try to climb out. Hamsters, in particular, can be surprisingly resourceful. Some animals use a small house, tunnel, or toy as a stepping stone. Therefore, it is important never to leave the run unattended.

Stay with your animal, observe how it reacts, and remove it from the run if it becomes restless, constantly tries to escape, or keeps climbing the bars. Run time must remain relaxed and safe.

Use for guinea pigs

For guinea pigs, this run can be useful as a small, temporary enclosure, for example for a short time or as a barrier during grooming. For longer periods of running out, this run is usually on the small side. Guinea pigs like to have room to walk, hide, and pass each other. Therefore, a more spacious guinea pig or rabbit run is often a better choice for guinea pigs.

Are you using this run for guinea pigs? Then always place a hiding place in the run and ensure that the surface is not slippery. A cloth, vet bed, washable mat, or other suitable underlay can help protect the floor and provide more grip.

Good to know

Use the Trixie Mouse and Hamster Run only under supervision. Check beforehand that the run is stable and that there are no sharp or loose parts. Do not place furniture, houses, or toys too close to the edge so that your animal cannot use them as steps. This run is less suitable for mice, gerbils, rats, chinchillas, and degus, as these animals are good at climbing, jumping, digging, or escaping. For guinea pigs, the run is mainly suitable as a small, temporary play area; for more room to move around, a larger run is more practical.

Frequently asked questions about the Trixie Mouse and Hamster Run

Is this run suitable for dwarf hamsters?

Yes, the run is suitable for dwarf hamsters as a temporary playpen under supervision. Always add a hiding place and watch out for climbing or escape attempts.

Is this run suitable for hamsters?

Yes, the run can be used for hamsters under supervision. Please note that active hamsters may climb and that the run is 25 cm high.

Is this run suitable for mice?

We do not recommend this run as the first choice for mice. Mice are excellent climbers and may quickly try to get out of the run.

Is this run suitable for gerbils?

This run is not the first choice for gerbils. Gerbils are active, can jump well, and enjoy digging. A higher, better-enclosed play environment is safer.

Can I use this run for guinea pigs?

Yes, but mainly as a small, temporary run. For longer periods of running out or for multiple guinea pigs, a more spacious guinea pig or rabbit run is usually better.

Should I put a small house in the run?

Yes, we recommend that. Rodents and guinea pigs feel more comfortable when they can retreat. Do not place the house directly against the edge of the run.

Can I leave my hamster alone in the run?

No, always use the playpen under supervision. Hamsters may try to climb, get under the playpen, or use toys to get closer to the edge.

How do I protect my floor?

If necessary, place a cloth, tarpaulin, vet bed, or washable mat under the run. This protects the floor and often provides your animal with more grip.

  • + Goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding
