Product description

Forest Play Tower 17 cm for mice and dwarf hamsters

The Forest Play Tower 17 cm is a small wooden play and hide tower for mice and dwarf hamsters. Thanks to the two levels, various openings, and the cozy little house at the bottom, your pet has multiple ways to use the house: crawling inside, walking over it, sitting on top, looking through the openings, or incorporating the tower into a route through the enclosure.

At DRD, when it comes to small wooden houses, we look not only at the appearance but, more importantly, at what the house contributes to the animal's behavior. This play tower is fun because it is not flat or standard, but combines height, shelter, and exploration. As a result, it fits beautifully into a hamsterscape, mouse enclosure, or natural setup where your animal can choose for itself where to walk, hide, and rest.

Natural wood look that pairs beautifully with cork, moss, sand, and deep substrate
Compact size for mice and dwarf hamsters

Why choose a wooden play tower?

A regular hiding place provides shelter. A play tower does just a little more. Thanks to the different levels, your animal can climb, cross over, and create its own routes. This suits mice and dwarf hamsters well, as they enjoy alternating between hiding, sniffing, searching, and short climbing or running moments.

The bottom space acts as a cozy little house or passageway, while the top can be used as a small lookout point or walkway. This makes the Forest Play Tower a great connecting element in a scape. For example, place it next to a cork tunnel, a sand bath, or a small foraging corner, so that your animal naturally moves past and over the tower.

The natural bark appearance makes the little house easy to combine with other natural materials. A little moss, soft bedding, or light decoration around the tower can help the whole thing blend in even more beautifully with the enclosure. This way, it doesn't become a standalone house, but a true part of the interior design.

For which animals is the Forest Play Tower suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a small play and hiding tower in a mouse enclosure. Mice like to use multiple routes, openings, and elevated surfaces. Combine the play tower with branches, tunnels, platforms, and foraging material, for example.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a playhouse, hiding place, and landscaping element. Place the play tower low and stable in the layout, for example next to a sand zone, cork tunnel, or digging layer.

Due to its compact size and small openings, this play tower is not the right choice for larger animals such as golden hamsters, gerbils, dwarf rats, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, degus, and ferrets. For these animals, you would prefer a more spacious house or a larger play object that better suits their body size and movement patterns.

Use & placement in the enclosure

Place the Forest Play Tower securely on the bottom of the enclosure. Thanks to the open bottom, the house fits snugly against the bedding. For dwarf hamsters, you can set the tower slightly into the bedding to give it a more natural look and ensure it stands firmly.

For mice, you can incorporate the play tower into a route with low branches, tunnels, or platforms. For dwarf hamsters, it works nicely as an extra house next to a main hiding place or multi-chamber house. Use it, for example, as a playful intermediate point in the enclosure's layout, not as the only hiding place.

Because the little tower has multiple openings, it is fun to create small foraging moments around the play tower. For example, scatter a few seeds or small pieces of herbs around the little house so that your animal moves along the openings and levels while sniffing.

Size, openings and material

Dimensions: approx. 17 × 11 × 15 cm.

Openings: round opening top approx. ø 4 cm, square opening top right/left approx. 5.5 × 4.5 cm, round opening bottom right/left approx. ø 3 cm.

Material: wood.

Bottom: open bottom.

The play tower is made of wood with a natural bark appearance. With wooden products featuring bark, the appearance may vary slightly from one item to another. Additionally, bark may peel off in some places over time. This is part of the natural character of this material and makes every playhouse just a little bit different.

Good to know about wood and bark

The wooden products in this line are made from softwood species without resin channels and have been dried for a long period. The glue used is cellulose-based. This makes the house suitable as wooden furnishings for small rodents, provided you use the product as intended and check it regularly.

Wood remains a natural material. Therefore, check the house for wear, loose parts, or sharp edges during the regular enclosure check. Place the play tower low and stable so that your mouse or dwarf hamster can move around quietly in, on, and around it.

Maintenance

It is best to clean wooden houses as dry as possible. Shake out loose bedding, brush away dust or sand, and use a slightly damp cloth only when necessary. Then let the house dry thoroughly before placing it back in the enclosure.

Does the house get wet or does your pet often use it as a toilet area? Then it is wise to check it extra carefully and replace it in time if necessary. This way, the interior remains fresh, pleasant, and organized.

Heel leuk!
