Cotton bedding is a soft, comfortable substrate primarily used as a comfort layer or nesting zone within a hamster enclosure. It's ideal for (dwarf) hamsters who enjoy creating a warm, cozy resting spot. Use it cleverly in zones and combine it with a diggable base layer for a natural and functional habitat.

Good to know: Cotton works best as a soft top layer or nesting box; for deep tunnels and sturdy burrows, combine it with a diggable base (see "Tip from us").

Our tip: Create a clear layout: a deep digging zone (basic substrate), a quiet nesting area with cotton, and a separate sand bath/foraging area. This way, your scape will stay tidy and interesting for longer.

Suitable for

• Dwarf hamster – ideal as a soft nesting or resting zone in a naturally furnished enclosure.
• Golden hamster (Syrian hamster) – nice as a comfort layer in the nesting room or a quiet corner.
• Mouse – suitable as a soft nesting supplement in small quantities (combine with other nesting material).
• Gerbil – to be used as a soft resting place next to a firm, diggable substrate.

Instructions for use

• First create a base with a suitable, diggable ground cover (layer thickness depends on your enclosure and animal).
• Then add cotton to one quiet corner or nesting chamber so your animal can “set it up” itself.
• Check the nesting area daily and remove any damp or soiled areas; refill as needed.

Maintenance & storage

• Cleaning: replace contaminated parts; if in doubt, follow the label/manufacturer
• Storage: dry and clean, out of direct sunlight
• Practical: work in zones (nesting corner + separate toilet area) for a fresher stay and easier maintenance.
