The Colored Willow Balls are cheerful little willow play balls for rodents and rabbits. Your pet can roll it, nibble on it, drag it around, or gently pull the ball apart. Thanks to the open willow structure, you can also put a little treat, hay, herbs, or dried leaves inside, so your pet will be actively engaged with it.
The willow balls are packaged in sets of three and have a diameter of approximately 3.5 cm. This makes them small enough for small rodents such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, but also fun as extra chewing and playing material for rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus.

Willow balls give your pet something small and movable to keep them occupied. Some animals roll the balls around, while others grab them, pull on them, or nibble the willow twigs loose. This makes the balls especially fun as a change of pace alongside houses, tunnels, hay, branches, and other gnawing materials.
Because the balls have an open structure, you can also use them as a small foraging toy. For example, put a few blades of hay, a piece of dried leaf, or a suitable snack inside. This way, your animal has to put in just a little more effort, and a small ball suddenly becomes a fun sniffing and searching toy.
Willow balls are handy for pet owners because they take up little space yet can add a lot. You can place them loosely in the enclosure, use them in a food bowl, or incorporate them into a natural setup. They are also fun to offer temporarily as an extra activity when you have just cleaned or redecorated the enclosure.
At DRD, when it comes to toys, we focus primarily on what your pet can do with them. These willow balls are interesting because they combine movement, gnawing, destroying, and foraging. As a result, they are small yet versatile.
Thanks to the colors and natural willow material, these balls are also fun in a scaping enclosure. In a hamsterscaping , gerbilscaping , or ratscaping enclosure, you can use them as a playful accent among bedding, tunnels, branches, and plant material.
For a woodland theme, you can combine the willow balls with cork, moss, dried leaves, pine cones, wood bark, and natural tunnels, for example. This makes the enclosure look lively and simultaneously provides your animal with small parts to explore.
You can place the willow balls loosely in the enclosure, use them in a play tray, or partially hide them among hay, bedding, or sniffing material. For animals that like to forage, you can place something small in between so that they have to sniff and pull to get to them.
| Usage | What does your animal do with it? |
| Loose in the enclosure | Rolling, pushing, picking up, nibbling, and exploring. |
| In a foraging corner | Sniffing, searching, and discovering small pieces of food or herbs. |
| Between hay or bedding | More searching and more movement due to the stay. |
| In scaping | Adds color, texture, and a playful natural accent. |
For mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, these small willow balls are very suitable as lightweight play material. They can move the balls around, gnaw on them, or explore the open structure. Especially in an enclosure with plenty of bedding, small balls are fun to partially hide.
For hamsters and gerbils, you can also wedge a small piece of dried vegetable, an herb, or a suitable snack inside. This makes the ball more than just a toy: your animal has to search, pull, and explore.
For pygmy rats and rats, willow balls are fun as a small foraging stimulus or as extra shredding material. Rats are smart and inquisitive; when you put something tasty between the willow twigs, they have to think and peck for a moment to get to it.
You can also use the balls in a Ratscaping corner, for example between bedding, cork, leaves, and other natural materials.
Guinea pigs and rabbits can use the willow balls to push against, roll with, or nibble on. The ball becomes more interesting, especially when you put a little hay, dried leaves, or herbs inside.
For example, place the balls near the hay corner, in a sniffing area, or in the run. This way, you easily add extra activity without making the enclosure busy or crowded.
For chinchillas and degus, willow balls are primarily fun as small objects to nibble on and destroy. These animals enjoy using their teeth and can actively pull the balls apart. That is precisely part of their use.
Place the balls in a dry spot in the enclosure or provide them temporarily as an extra activity. The open structure also makes it possible to tuck some dried herbs or leaves inside.
The open willow structure makes these balls very suitable for tucking something small inside. Think of a few blades of hay, dried herbs, leaves, a small piece of dried vegetable, or a suitable snack. Always choose something that suits the species and your animal's normal feeding pattern.
For guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, herbs, leaves, and hay are often the best choice. For mice, hamsters, gerbils, and rats, you can also use a small snack that complements their diet.
Willow balls are meant to be used. Your pet is allowed to nibble on them, play with them, and slowly loosen the twigs. That is precisely what makes this type of toy interesting: it does not remain neat and perfect, but becomes part of natural play and destructive behavior.
Is a ball completely taken apart? Then it has done its job. You can remove the loose pieces and offer a new ball when your animal is ready for some extra nibbling or foraging fun again.
