Which animals is this product suitable for?

• Mouse: suitable as a natural top layer, foraging bedding or part of a bedding mix. For stable little tunnels, you can add cotton, paper or cardboard to the mix.
• Dwarf hamster: suitable as an enriching top layer or as part of a deep digging layer. For better tunnel structure, mix with bedding that adds more volume.
• Hamster: suitable as natural mixed bedding or foraging layer. For hamsters that dig a lot, this mix works best in combination with cotton, paper/cardboard or hay.
• Gerbil: suitable as an enriching layer in a digging enclosure. Gerbils dig actively, so it is best to combine the Comfort Mix with sturdy materials that support burrows better.
• Dwarf rat: suitable as a soft floor layer, dry zone, top layer or foraging area. Also nice in a dig box when you want to add extra structure.
• Rat: suitable as enriching bedding, top layer or foraging zone. The hardwood and hardwood bark add extra variety to investigate and gnaw.
• Guinea pig: suitable as a soft, natural base layer or as a top layer in fixed areas. The mix adds extra structure and can also be nice in a foraging or activity corner.
• Rabbit: suitable as soft bedding, top layer or natural filling in a toilet or activity corner. Especially nice as an enriching layer in which you can offer hay or herbs.

How to use JR Farm Nature Clean Comfort Mix

Spread the Comfort Mix evenly over the floor of the enclosure or use it specifically as a top layer, foraging zone or corner filling. The mix is versatile and can be used in different ways, depending on the animal and the setup.

• Use as a soft base layer for larger rodents and rabbits.
• Use as a natural top layer over another bedding.
• Use as foraging bedding by lightly scattering small snacks, herbs or dried flowers through the top layer.
• Use in an activity corner, dig box or enrichment zone.
• For small burrowing rodents, mix with cotton, paper/cardboard, hay or another structure-rich bedding.
• Replace wet spots and heavily soiled areas regularly with fresh bedding.

Do you want to use this mix for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters or gerbils that like to make little tunnels? Mix the Comfort Mix with cotton bedding or paper/cardboard bedding. These materials add extra volume and structure, helping burrows and tunnels hold their shape better. The Comfort Mix adds natural variety, softness and enrichment.

For other rodents and rabbits, this mix is a lovely soft and enriching bedding. The pieces of hardwood and hardwood bark make the floor more interesting than a completely smooth bedding and can encourage natural exploring and gnawing behaviour.

Top layer and foraging bedding

The Comfort Mix is also very suitable as a top layer. Scatter a thin layer over an existing bedding to make the enclosure look more natural. For extra enrichment, you can hide small amounts of herbs, flowers, seeds or snacks between the bedding. Your animal then has to search, sniff and forage, which makes the enclosure more interesting in a simple way.

If you use the mix as foraging bedding, keep it easy to manage. Small amounts are often enough to encourage natural searching behaviour without making the enclosure messy.

How much bedding do you need?

Use this simple calculation to estimate how many litres of bedding you need:

Formula: length × width × layer depth in cm ÷ 1000 = number of litres of bedding.

Example: an enclosure of 100 × 50 cm with a 5 cm layer requires about 25 litres of bedding. If you mainly use the Comfort Mix as a top layer or foraging layer, you need less than when filling the entire base with it. For a deep digging layer for small burrowing rodents, we especially recommend combining this mix with bedding that adds more volume and stability.
