JR Farm Nature Clean Comfort Mix is a natural 4-component bedding with flax straw, spelt husk, hardwood and hardwood bark. The mix feels soft, absorbs moisture well and immediately gives the enclosure a natural, enriching look. Thanks to the combination of fine and slightly coarser natural materials, this bedding is suitable as a base layer, top layer, mixed bedding or foraging bedding.
Soft, natural bedding with extra structure and enrichment from hardwood and hardwood bark.
✓ Natural mix of flax straw, spelt husk, hardwood and hardwood bark
✓ Soft and comfortable as bedding or top layer
✓ Enriching thanks to the varied structure
✓ Hardwood bark invites exploring and gnawing
✓ Ideal as foraging bedding or as part of a bedding mix
This Comfort Mix is a good fit for owners who want bedding that is not only practical, but also adds something to the enclosure. Flax straw and spelt husk create a soft, light bedding, while hardwood and hardwood bark add extra natural structure. This makes the floor look less flat and gives your animal more to sniff, forage and explore.
At DRD, we like to look at both everyday use and what bedding adds to an animal’s behaviour. This mix is pleasant as a soft base for animals that like to walk or rest comfortably, but it is also lovely as a top layer in which you can hide small snacks, herbs or dried flowers. This turns the floor into a simple foraging area.
For small burrowing rodents, the Comfort Mix is especially interesting as an enriching mixing partner or top layer. If you want tunnels and burrows to hold their shape better, mix this bedding with cotton bedding, paper/cardboard bedding or another structure-rich bedding. This way you combine the natural effect of the Comfort Mix with extra volume and firmness.
Spread the Comfort Mix evenly over the floor of the enclosure or use it specifically as a top layer, foraging zone or corner filling. The mix is versatile and can be used in different ways, depending on the animal and the setup.
Do you want to use this mix for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters or gerbils that like to make little tunnels? Mix the Comfort Mix with cotton bedding or paper/cardboard bedding. These materials add extra volume and structure, helping burrows and tunnels hold their shape better. The Comfort Mix adds natural variety, softness and enrichment.
For other rodents and rabbits, this mix is a lovely soft and enriching bedding. The pieces of hardwood and hardwood bark make the floor more interesting than a completely smooth bedding and can encourage natural exploring and gnawing behaviour.
The Comfort Mix is also very suitable as a top layer. Scatter a thin layer over an existing bedding to make the enclosure look more natural. For extra enrichment, you can hide small amounts of herbs, flowers, seeds or snacks between the bedding. Your animal then has to search, sniff and forage, which makes the enclosure more interesting in a simple way.
If you use the mix as foraging bedding, keep it easy to manage. Small amounts are often enough to encourage natural searching behaviour without making the enclosure messy.
Use this simple calculation to estimate how many litres of bedding you need:
Formula: length × width × layer depth in cm ÷ 1000 = number of litres of bedding.
Example: an enclosure of 100 × 50 cm with a 5 cm layer requires about 25 litres of bedding. If you mainly use the Comfort Mix as a top layer or foraging layer, you need less than when filling the entire base with it. For a deep digging layer for small burrowing rodents, we especially recommend combining this mix with bedding that adds more volume and stability.
| Enclosure | 2 cm top layer | 5 cm layer | 10 cm layer |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 × 40 cm | 5 litres | 12 litres | 24 litres |
| 80 × 40 cm | 6 litres | 16 litres | 32 litres |
| 100 × 50 cm | 10 litres | 25 litres | 50 litres |
Composition: flax straw 45%, spelt husk 30%, hardwood 20%, hardwood bark 5%.
The composition combines soft plant-based materials with natural wood structure. This makes the bedding a good fit for owners who want to create a comfortable and varied floor without making the enclosure look busy or unnatural.
The Comfort Mix is soft and enriching, but mixing is recommended for small rodents that really want to build stable tunnels. In that case, do not use this mix as the only tunnel bedding, but combine it with cotton, paper/cardboard or hay. This makes the bedding airier, fuller and more stable.
Yes, especially as a top layer, foraging bedding or part of a bedding mix. For stable tunnels, it is best to mix the Comfort Mix with cotton, paper/cardboard or another bedding with more volume.
As the only bedding, the mix is usually not firm enough for tunnels that stay in place nicely. By mixing it with structure-rich materials, you make the base more stable for burrowing animals.
Yes, its natural appearance works especially well as a top layer. A thin layer over a base bedding adds extra structure and makes the enclosure more interesting.
The hardwood and hardwood bark are part of the bedding and can naturally be explored or gnawed. For extra gnawing needs, separate chew material remains a nice addition.
Replace wet spots and heavily soiled areas regularly. Refresh the complete base layer once it no longer stays fresh.
JR Farm Nature Clean Comfort Mix 20 Litres is a lovely choice when you are looking for soft, natural and enriching bedding. Use it as comfortable bedding for larger animals, as an attractive top layer or as playful foraging bedding. For small burrowing rodents, the mix becomes extra practical when combined with cotton, paper/cardboard or other materials that give tunnels more stability.
