A good chinchilla transport crate is one of those items you hopefully won't need much of, but you'll be happy to have it when you do. Think of a visit to the vet, a move, or temporary transport. In this category, you'll find sturdy and practical chinchilla transport crates (like the Trixie Capri models) and clever extras like a non-slip mat for added stability. As specialists in rodents and rabbits since 2011, we choose transport solutions that work well in practice: easy to carry, securely closed, and with sufficient ventilation.

Why a chinchilla carrier is a must
Even if you rarely transport your chinchilla, unexpected transport may be necessary. With your own transport crate, you can act quickly and keep the journey safe and controlled. A good crate provides your chinchilla with shelter, reduces stress, and prevents the animal from escaping or slipping during travel.
Right size: not too big, but comfortable
The safest carrier isn't often the largest. A carrier should be spacious enough for your chinchilla to sit and turn comfortably, but not so spacious that it will slide around in the car. Are two animals traveling together that normally live together? Then traveling together can be a peace of mind, as long as the carrier remains snug and the animals are safe.
Anti-slip & comfort: a small addition, a big difference
A non-slip mat helps prevent slipping and makes transport noticeably calmer for many animals. It's a simple way to instantly make the crate feel more stable. Always ensure the material is clean and dry.
How do you use this?
✔ Place the transport box in a quiet place and prevent "hunting" in the cage.
✔ Place a non-slip mat in the box for extra grip and stability.
✔ Ensure adequate ventilation and always close the box properly.
✔ Place the box in the car in a stable manner (preferably on the floor or secured with a seat belt).
✔ Keep transport calm and short where possible and avoid direct sunlight/hot cars.
Checklist
✔ Right size: not too big, but comfortable.
✔ Good closure and sufficient ventilation.
✔ Extra grip: anti-slip mat (less sliding).
✔ Box placed stably in the car (not loose on the seat).
✔ Clean after use and store dry.
Safety
✔ Never leave a chinchilla in a hot car, not even “for a moment”.
✔ Check the box for damage and ensure the door/lock works properly.
✔ Avoid draughts and sudden temperature changes during transport.
✔ Do not use loose parts in the box that can slide or fall over.
FAQ
Is a transport box really necessary if I never travel?
Yes, especially for unexpected moments (such as a visit to the vet) it is nice to have a box at home.
Can two chinchillas fit together in one carrier?
Living together normally can provide peace of mind, as long as the cage remains suitable and not too large. Safety and stability are paramount.
Why an anti-slip mat in the transport box?
This prevents slipping during transport and often immediately gives a calmer feeling in the box.
