The Getzoo Wooden Sandpit Hamsterscaping 25 cm is a beautiful wooden sandpit for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils. Thanks to its natural wooden design, this sandpit fits beautifully into a hamsterscaping, mousescaping, or gerbilscaping enclosure. The lid provides a sheltered entrance and helps to keep the sand better contained within the pit.
At DRD, when it comes to sandboxes, we focus primarily on size, entry, stability, material, and the animal for which the sandbox is truly practical. This Getzoo sandbox has a diameter of approx. Ø 25 cm and is available in two variants: with a round lid or with a square lid. This allows you to choose the shape that best suits the layout of the enclosure.
✔ Beautiful natural look for hamsterscaping and gerbilscaping
✔ Two variants: round lid or square lid
✔ Sheltered opening where small rodents can easily get in and out
✔ Lid helps to keep flying sand better inside the bin
✔ Compact height, allowing the sandbox to fit well in many enclosures
✔ Nice sand area for rolling, digging, sniffing, and grooming
A sand bath is an important part of the enclosure for many small rodents. Dwarf hamsters, hamsters, gerbils, and mice use sand to roll, dig, sniff, and groom their fur. A separate sand zone provides your animal with a designated area for these behaviors and immediately makes the enclosure richer and more interesting.
This Getzoo sandpit is not only practical but also beautifully designed. The wooden material blends well with natural decor featuring cork, wood, moss, bedding, tunnels, and hiding places. As a result, the sandpit appears calmer than many plastic sandpits and can be beautifully integrated into a landscape scape.
The lid makes the sand bath extra pleasant to use. The opening provides easy access, while the rest of the box remains more sheltered. This can be particularly nice for hamsters and dwarf hamsters, as they like to use sheltered routes and quiet corners. At the same time, the overhanging lid helps to limit sand spillage.
This sandbox is available in two variants. Both variants have the same basic size and function, but the shape of the lid is different. This allows you to better match the sandbox to the style and layout of the enclosure.
Which variant you choose is mainly a matter of layout and taste. For the animal, it is especially important that the sandbox is stable, easily accessible, and filled with suitable bath sand.
This is not a logical sand bath for dwarf rats, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits. These animals do not use a sand bath like hamsters and gerbils do. For chinchillas and degus, you would prefer a larger and sturdier sand bath that better suits their size and intensive sand-bathing behavior.
In a hamsterscaping enclosure, you can use the sand bath as a distinct sand zone. Preferably, place the bath in a stable spot, for example on a flat part of the bedding, on a platform, or in a corner where the sand bath remains easily accessible. This prevents the sand bath from tilting or becoming filled with bedding.
The sand bath can be nicely combined with cork tunnels, wooden bridges, moss, small plants, and natural hiding places. Do not wedge it completely between decorations, but leave enough space around the opening. Your hamster must be able to step in and out calmly and use the sand bath freely.
For dwarf hamsters, a sand bath is often a favorite spot in the enclosure. Some animals roll in it, while others mainly dig or use it as a permanent grooming area. Thanks to the sheltered lid, the sand bath feels extra peaceful and fits well with naturally designed runways.
A sand bath is also almost indispensable in a gerbilscaping enclosure. Gerbils enjoy using sand to groom their fur and to dig actively. This wooden sandbox can be placed as a permanent sand zone alongside tunnels, deep bedding, and sturdy houses.
Because gerbils gnaw heavily, regular checks are important. This does not mean that wood is not a good choice, but it does mean that you keep a close eye on its usage. Place the sand bath stably and check that the edges, lid, and entrance remain clean.
Always use fine, soft bath sand suitable for small rodents in this sandbox. Fill the box with a layer of approximately 2 to 4 cm. This is usually enough for rolling, washing, and digging, without the sandbox becoming unnecessarily heavy or too full.
Do not fill the container all the way to the rim. Especially for hamsters, it is pleasant when there is enough room left to move around under the lid. Furthermore, a shallower filling helps to limit spillage.
For this sandbox, use fine bath sand or chinchilla sand suitable for rodents. Do not use shell sand or sharp bird sand; that is not intended as bath sand for hamsters, mice, or gerbils.

Check the sand regularly and scoop out soiled spots. Replace the sand as soon as it looks dirty, damp, or dusty. How often this is necessary depends on the animal, the usage, and the location of the sandbox in the enclosure.
You can clean the wooden sandbox specifically with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use too much water and let the wood dry thoroughly before refilling the sandbox. Wood is a natural material and stays at its best when not soaked.
Regularly check the sandbox for wear, loose parts, or gnaw marks. This is especially wise for gerbils, as they often use wooden furnishings more intensively than hamsters or mice.
This sand bath is intended as a sand zone in the enclosure. Use the bath with suitable bath sand and not with sharp types of sand such as shell sand. A layer of approximately 2 to 4 cm is practical enough for most small rodents.
The lid helps to limit sand spillage, but does not prevent it completely. Hamsters and gerbils can dig and roll enthusiastically, meaning some sand can inevitably end up outside the box. Therefore, place the sand box in a location where you can easily clean it.
Because the sandbox is made of wood, gnawing can affect its lifespan. Check the wood regularly and replace the sandbox when it becomes damaged or is no longer sturdy.
This sand bath is suitable for mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils. For chinchillas and degus, you would prefer a larger and sturdier sand bath.
Yes, the sand bath can be suitable for Syrian hamsters/golden hamsters, provided your hamster fits comfortably through the opening and has enough room to turn and roll. For large golden hamsters, a larger sand bath might be more comfortable.
This sandbox is available with a round lid or a square lid. The function is the same; the choice depends mainly on the layout and the look you find appealing.
The round lid looks somewhat softer and more natural in an organic scape. The square lid is handy when you want to place the sandbox more tightly in a corner, along a wall, or next to a platform.
The sandbox has a diameter of approx. Ø 25 cm. Including the overhanging lid, the outer dimensions are approximately Ø 29 cm. The height is approximately 9 cm.
A layer of about 2 to 4 cm is usually practical enough. Do not fill the container too high, so that your animal can move around properly and the lid retains its sheltered function.
Use fine bath sand or chinchilla sand suitable for rodents. Do not use shell sand or sharp bird sand.
The lid helps to limit sand spillage, but does not prevent it completely. Hamsters and gerbils can dig and roll enthusiastically, meaning some sand can inevitably end up next to the box.
