The smallest size is handy for small rodents, the medium size fits hamsters and gerbils nicely, and the largest size is particularly interesting for guinea pigs, rats, chinchillas, degus, and smaller rabbits that can easily fit through it.

When choosing the size, always consider the opening, body build, and how your animal will use the house. An animal must be able to pass through the opening comfortably without getting stuck. If you are unsure between two sizes, the larger size is usually the better choice.

For which animals is the Wilgenhuis Camp suitable?

• Mouse: suitable as a natural hiding, climbing, and exploration spot. For mice, the Culatus Camp is often a nice size, especially as part of an active setup.
• Dwarf hamster: suitable as a low hiding place or passageway in a natural setup. Choose Culatus or Auratus, depending on the size of your dwarf hamster and the space in the enclosure.
• Hamster: suitable as a natural house, passageway, or sheltered spot. For Syrian hamsters, the Auratus Camp is usually a more logical choice than the smallest size; always check that the opening is wide enough.
• Gerbil: suitable as a willow house for exploring, walking through, and nibbling. For adult gerbils, Auratus or Cavi Camp is often more practical, depending on size and use.
• Dwarf rat: suitable as a hiding place, route element, and gnawing object. Because dwarf rats can vary in size, look primarily at the opening, body structure, and how your animals use the house.
• Rat: suitable as a natural house or route element, especially in the larger size. For larger adult rats, it is important to check whether the opening and interior space are spacious enough.
• Guinea pig: suitable as a natural shelter in the largest size. The Cavi Camp provides shelter, a passageway, and a place to sit out of sight for a moment.
• Rabbit: suitable for smaller or compact rabbits that fit well through the opening. For larger rabbits, this house is more of a gnawing or furnishing element than a spacious shelter.
• Chinchilla: suitable as a natural willow house or part of a stable setup. Place the house firmly and low enough so that it cannot shift or tip over.

Usage & placement

Place the Wilgenhuis Camp on a flat, stable spot in the enclosure. Thanks to the open bottom, you can place the house partially in the bedding. This makes it feel more natural and integrates better with tunnels, bridges, or other furnishing elements.

For dwarf hamsters and hamsters, it is best to use the house low and sturdy, for example as a passageway, hiding place, or part of a hamsterscaping route. For gerbils, you can combine the house with deep bedding and other gnawing material. For dwarf rats and rats, it fits well into a Ratscaping setup with tunnels, platforms, and foraging areas.

For guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, and degus, preferably place the largest size in a quiet spot where the house remains stable. The roof can provide extra surface area, but ensure the house is always sturdy and suits the way your animals move.
