Product description

Trixie Flexible Play Tunnel for rodents and ferrets

The Trixie Flexible Play Tunnel is an extendable plastic tunnel that can be shaped in various ways. You can lay the tunnel straight, bend it into a curve, or incorporate it as a route between two parts of the enclosure. This makes the tunnel fun as a hiding place, passageway, and play element for animals that enjoy walking through tunnels.

The tunnel is available in two sizes: a smaller version of approx. ø 10 cm and 75 cm long, and a larger version of approx. ø 19 cm and 80 cm long. This way, you can choose a size that suits your animal and the layout of the enclosure.

Why choose a flexible tunnel?

Tunnels align well with natural behavior. Many small animals enjoy walking through sheltered passages because a tunnel provides protection, route choice, and variety. A tunnel is not just a toy, but also a way to make the enclosure more interesting and logical.

The handy thing about this flexible tunnel is that you can adjust the shape. One time you lay it straight through the enclosure, the next you turn it into a curve or a twist. This keeps the layout varied without having to change everything at once.

For rats and ferrets, the larger size is particularly interesting as a running and exploration route. For mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils, the smaller size is usually more logical. For animals that like to gnaw, such as gerbils, regular checking is important.

Which size do you choose?

  • ø 10 cm / 10 × 75 cm: suitable for smaller animals such as mice, dwarf hamsters, hamsters, and gerbils.
  • ø 19 cm / 19 × 80 cm: suitable for larger animals such as rats and ferrets.

Always choose a size in which your animal can move freely and comfortably. The tunnel should not become a narrow passage that your animal has to squeeze through. When in doubt, the larger size is often more comfortable, especially for rats and ferrets.

How do you use the Trixie Play Tunnel?

  • Place the tunnel on a stable spot in the enclosure, run, or play area.
  • Bend the tunnel into a slight curve for an extra challenge.
  • Use the tunnel as a route between hiding places, platforms, or play zones.
  • Check regularly whether the tunnel remains clean and intact.
  • Remove the tunnel if your animal gnaws on it heavily or if damage occurs.

For hamsters and dwarf hamsters, it is preferable to place the tunnel low and on the ground. These animals are not true height climbers and have a poor sense of depth. Therefore, use the tunnel primarily as a ground tunnel, hiding place, or part of a hamsterscape.

For mice, you can also incorporate the tunnel in a slightly more playful way, for example as a route to another part of the enclosure. Just make sure the tunnel is securely positioned and that any fall heights are properly absorbed.

For which animals is this tunnel suitable?

  • Mouse: suitable as a spacious tunnel and play route. The smaller size usually makes the most sense.
  • Dwarf hamster: suitable as a ground tunnel and hiding place. Place the tunnel low and stable.
  • Hamster: suitable as a play tunnel, passageway, and hiding place. For larger hamsters, check if the chosen size is spacious enough.
  • Gerbil: suitable as a tunnel and landscaping element, but check regularly for gnawing damage. Gerbils can actively gnaw on plastic.
  • Rat: suitable as a tunnel, route, and part of an active setup. The larger size is most suitable for rats.
  • Ferret: suitable as a playful tunnel in the play area or run. Ferrets are not rodents, but often really enjoy running through tunnels.

For guinea pigs and rabbits, this tunnel is usually less logical. They generally need wider tunnels that better suit their build and way of moving.

Hamsterscaping, gerbilscaping and ratscaping

This tunnel can also be used as a practical route element in a natural setup. For hamsterscaping, you can make the tunnel partially disappear between bedding, cork, and hiding places to create a sheltered runway. Always place the tunnel low and stable for hamsters.

For gerbilscaping, the tunnel can help create routes between different zones. However, be extra careful with gerbils when they gnaw on plastic. Only use the tunnel if your animals handle it carefully, and check regularly for damage.

For ratscaping, you can use the larger tunnel as a route between play areas, platforms, hammocks, and hiding places. Rats often enjoy it when a tunnel leads somewhere, such as a foraging spot or resting area.

Plastic: easy to clean

Because the tunnel is made of plastic, it is practical to maintain. This is convenient when the tunnel is used intensively or if a puddle ends up inside. In that case, remove the tunnel from the enclosure, clean it, and let it dry thoroughly before putting it back.

  • Remove loose bedding or food remnants from the tunnel.
  • Wipe down the tunnel when it has become dirty.
  • Let the tunnel dry thoroughly before returning it to the enclosure.
  • Check the edges and ridges regularly for damage.
