Barley straw is ideal as (additional) bedding for outdoor rabbit hutches. Straw insulates well and provides extra warmth in winter.

Instructions for use Barley Straw

For small rodents as a top layer (Mouse, Dwarf Hamster, Hamster, Gerbil)
Barley straw is very soft, making it suitable for small rodents. However, it's not ideal, and there are better alternatives for a nice bedding.
Fill the enclosure with standard ground cover and add a 5 to 10 cm layer of barley straw on top. Sprinkle some treats throughout the layer and allow the animals to exhibit their natural foraging behavior.

For larger rodents as a top layer (Rat, Guinea pig, Rabbit, Chinchilla, Degu)
Fill the enclosure with standard ground cover and add a 10-20 cm layer of barley straw on top (depending on the animal). Sprinkle some treats throughout the layer and allow the animals to display their natural foraging behavior.

For use as ground cover
Fill the enclosure until the bottom is completely covered with barley straw. A layer of 10 to 15 cm is sufficient, provided the bottom is completely covered.
