Fresh Rodent Plants

Fresh plants bring the enclosure to life: they add scent, structure, and stimulate curiosity. For herbivores like rabbits and guinea pigs , fresh plants (depending on the product) can also be a tasty addition. For other species, it's primarily enrichment and a source of "sniffing."

Tip: Always introduce fresh greens gradually and keep them as a supplement to the basic food. Remove leftovers promptly to keep the enclosure fresh.

Dried Plants

Dried plants are ideal for foraging enrichment : scatter them throughout the enclosure, hide them in a sniffing area, or use them as natural decoration. They're also frequently used in hamster and gerbil scaping, as they create ambiance and encourage the animal to actively search.

  • Perfect for sprinkling on ground cover or in a foraging area.
  • Provides colour, structure and variety in the habitat.
  • Useful to stimulate “search behaviour”, instead of offering everything in one container.

Artificial plants

Artificial plants are primarily intended for decoration and landscaping . They don't wilt, maintain their shape, and instantly add a natural look to a terrarium or glass enclosure. Ideal if you want to create a permanent scape with permanent "greenery" (outside the enclosure).

Checklist: how to choose the right rodent plants

  • Purpose: food supplementation (herbivores), enrichment/foraging or scaping/decoration.
  • Animal type: choose one that suits your pet's eating habits and lifestyle (ground-dwelling vs. climber, nibbler vs. quiet).
  • Fresh: build up slowly and remove any residues in time.
  • Dried: ideal for sprinkling/hiding for search behaviour.
  • Art: place outside the residence

Safety

  • Only provide suitable products: do not use unknown (garden) plants or pick them in the wild without prior notice.
  • Fresh = hygiene: remove leftovers before they become damp or spoil.
  • Introduce slowly: changing your menu? Always build up gradually.
  • Artificial plants: check regularly for loose parts, sharp edges or gnawing damage.

FAQ Rodent Plants

What is the difference between fresh and dried plants?
Fresh is "living green" and requires proper hygiene (removing leftovers). Dried is ideal for scattering and hiding for foraging and scaping.

Are artificial plants safe?
They are meant for decoration. Place them securely and check if your pet nibbles on them. Remove any damaged or loose pieces.

Can I water plants daily?
That depends on the animal species and the product. Think of it as a supplement and vary; always gradually introduce new items.
